As average a shot as I am, I was able to dust and even hit a steel plate at 100yd with my M49. Several shots did go wide, but that was ME, not the gun!
This is the plate from the firing line. The size can be estimated from the paper targets just above it. Oh, the clink of hits sounded sweet! :D

Good shootin'. My J's are far more accurate than I am . . .

Awesome - and I just KNEW that range pic looked familiar - or at least I think it does - I recently joined the FOP range! :)

Great shooting!

I was shooting balloons at 50 yards today, had no problems hitting them with a J...

Hickock on Youtube can consistantly ring a gong @ 200 meters on his range shooting J frames

After you figure out how to hold the sights on distant targets, consistant hits become increasingly easier, especially when firing single-action.

The real trick is the ability to control the double-action trigger well enough to repeat the accuracy using that mode of fire. My favorite 2 inch barreled "shooting" gun is my recently acquired Model 12.

However, I also enjoy shooting the J-frame 637, although my accuracy distances have decreased, somewhat, with advancing years.

While I occasionally shoot targets at 50 yards, I normally practice at "up close and personal" distances.

I once read an article on the accuracy difference between short barreled handguns vs long barrel.
Fired from a ransom pistol rest, 2, 4, and 6 inch barrel guns were very close in performance regarding accuracy.
The human error factor is what makes tight groups so difficult to shoot with a short barrel gun.

That's good shooting! I limit my J-frame distance, but I'm able to consistently hit head-size targets at 15 yards with it.

With snubs, I can normally hit a 4" or so group at 7 yards. I can keep them on a 9" paper plate at 50' - maybe a 6" or 7" group. Beyond 50' I use a 4" gun although my 2.5" 66 can keep them on a silhouette target at 50 yards. That's about as good as I'm going to get given my eyesight!
