Other than the US Navy, Defense Guards, and the OSS, did any other military service issue the Victory Model in WW II? Did the Navy issue any that were not marked US Navy?

Thanks,

Bill

Short answer is yes. Long answer takes up a significant portion of chapter 7 in Pates "US Handguns of World War II". Highly recommended reading IMO.

My 4in 38spl Victory is US Property and GHD marked on the topstrap, no Navy markings. The factory letter shows shipment to the US Navy in California in Oct. 1943. I need to get it out and post the full number for the Victory database

Thanks, John for the information. That is just what I wanted to know.

Pace, thanks for the reference. Do you happen to know if it is currently in print and the approximate cost? It would make a fine Christmas present.

Thanks, again, to both of you all.

Thanks, Gunbarrel. It appears it provides even more info than I'd hoped. Actually, information I have wondered about for years but never knew of a credible source. Definitely a Christmas present, if I can wait that long. Although, I doubt that I will.

Thanks, again.

Bill
