im thinking about using shooting gloves for shooting 44 mag. the grips that came with it were nice but too big around the base so ive tried some hogue monogrips they are much better but there is not enough "meat" in the palm area so the gun tends to move in my hand during recoil. i can hold tighter to keep the gun from moving but then accuracy suffers.
i tend to hold guns kinda gently probably from years of rimfire shooting. so i was thinking gloves would help my grip kinda like work gloves on a shovel.
so im asking: what do most of you do? what do you use ?
thoughts for or against or alternatives?
thanks in advance for all replies.

When I was shooting Metalic Silhouette years ago, I used the thin kid leather golf gloves, They did give you a better grip on the gun. There are now probably gloves made more specifically for this.

I once used some lined suede gloves while shooting a 4.625" Ruger Super Blackhawk with 300gr Federal loads, because my hands were cold. There was a distinct and impressive improvement in accuracy. Comfort, too, for sure. However, aside from that occasion, I almost never use gloves while shooting handguns, because I won't have them on when I NEED the gun.

I used to use gloves when firing a rifle in the winter. Just regular gloves, with a slit for the trigger finger. Haven't shot much in really cold weather, lately. The guy I usually go rifle shooting with wusses out below 30 degrees.

I use one when I shoot my S&W 500. It has a wrist support and it just makes me feel a little more comfortable. Probably just in my mind, but I like it anyway.

IUse golf gloves
But they only come one to a package
I asked the clerk at the golf store to help me find matching right and left gloves
He asked why
I said: "because I hold my shotgun with both hands"
Being New Jersey the clerk almost called the cops.

Never tried them, but I imagine a shooting glove would be fingerless, and fingerless gloves have an unsavory association for me. It is hard for me to shake the memory of a bunch of lawyer/bikers on a club ride, eating lunch with their fingerless gloves on. (No, I did not join their club.)

I can see where gloves might spare the knuckles from abuse when shooting some revolvers.

I use the PAST gloves that BE Mike posted a link to; they work good, I use them when shooting .44mag loads in my 329 Nightguard.

I bought my wife batters gloves - she is very pleased with them.

Ironclad Impact Gel fingerless (or Framer) work gloves. I've grabbed these out of the truck when the 325gr over 19.5gr H-110 loads start to "pinch" a bit...

I think they are about $25 at most hardware stores.

I wear shooting gloves for driving, as the old knuckles
get pretty sore after a few hours.
When shooting a "new-to-me" firearm, I'll sometimes
wear welding gauntlets, to keep the meat in one sack
in case of a mishap. ymmv, TACC1.

thanks for all the replies, ill try some gloves out for sure . but id better be on my game if im gonna be using accessories like that, or ill look like a poseur for sure lol

When age caused me to become recoil sensitive, I tried a pair of bicycling gloves, and it made a world of difference, although I did have to get used to the padding in the palm area.

Years ago, I worked with the sister of a famous woman trophy hunter who used a 454 to take game all over. She (the huntress, did) that my wife use bicycle or weight lifting gloves (the fingerless kind)

remember hill street blues? who was that rubby looking cop with the fingerless gloves?
-sorry kinda off topic ,but the image popped into my mind and i had to share

I went to a local tack and saddlery shop, and found some leather gloves with elastic gussets in them. They breathe, they're comfortable, but a bit on the thin side. The thinness does give a better feel, though.

ha ha thats him ! thank you aden67 he looks younger than i remember lol
