Has anyone else seen any of the Olympic medal ceremonies on tv? I have yet to see one and I've been watching quite a bit. I like the medal ceremony. I like seeing the emotion on an athletes face as they are rewarded for years of dedication and effort. The pride they must feel representing the United States in the Olympics must be unbelievable. What gives?

"Because nobody cares...?"

Don't think that's it... We have seen some, but the 9 hour time differences probably makes for some hard choices as to what to show in prime time (?).

I see a lot of them on Canadian TV, maybe that's because they are winning more gold medals than we are. (I get Canadian TV on cable here, they're showing it live all the way through the night, I fall asleep by 10PM but at least they're showing it)

I found a real medal ceremony.

They are not advertising the ceremonies because undoubtedly they are afraid it would offend some muslim somewhere!!! That is about what this country has come down to.

Just seems weird. The last Summer Olympics you couldn't help but catch a medal ceremony there were showing them so much. Maybe the addition of all the new figure skating stuff is taking too much time. Seems like its been a daily occurrence......

Wouldn't want to damage the self esteem of non-medalists would we?

OBVIOUSLY

EVERYONE should get a gold medal!:D
This is PATHETIC(!!!) They're gonna hurt some feelings :( and it's like they don't even care.

The Winter Olympics have turned into the X-Games, and have lost (I think) much of the appeal from the past. I remember watching the 1980 hockey team play, Eric Heiden speed skating, the Maher brothers skiing, etc. and really enjoying the festivities. Now, maybe I'm older and more cynical, but I couldn't give a rat's rump about snowboarders and hotdog skiers. NBC is invested in promoting its own agenda, and if medal ceremonies are not being aired, it's for corporate reasons.

It's about viewership and selling ads.Snowboarders and stunt skiing bring in the young males and figure skating gets the women.Ive had it on in the background and watching the downhill has been fun.

Looked into this. Apparently, for this Olympics, they are doing all the medal ceremonies for the following day at 11am Sochi time (8pm EST), and since somedays there are 5-6 events medaled in a row, NBC didn't want to show 30-60 minutes of anthems. And when someone wins a medal, since they don't receive it until the next day, there is no medal highlight to show the night of the competition. Medal ceremony highlights are shown on the daytime broadcast during the daily recap.

Not many medals going to US athletes this time around. I would surmise this was already well thought about in the past 18 months in planning for the event, and whoever the broadcast station is already weighed the potential for medals in which categories and as such, we won't see many medal ceremonies. They can alter the programming and edit stuff if there are some surprise golds coming thru the pipeline, and yes, they would adjust programming for that.

But in their eyes???? Who wants to watch US athletes collecting their lead medal after the bronze, silver and gold went to other athletes??

The bigger question is how did they not have much well thought out build up to the games to get us to know the athletes better, and to give us more of a desire to follow our national athletes when they represent us in the games???

Networks have done this job much better in the past. Now; I know we have an overload of programming choices and our attention spans are tuned to a shorter bandwidth.......

But ya don't catch fish without throwing a little chum to bring 'em in..................
