Why I don’t like Christmas....

I don't see a Christmas problem, I see a TREE problem. It has always been hard for me to get that Christmas feeling with an artificial tree. Get a real tree. Put your own lights on it. And decorate it with your own family traditional ornaments. Miss Pam made a bakers dozen ceramic ornaments.painted them putting her name and the date in 1974.

We still have all 13 and that's the first thing that goes on the tree every year.

Doing all this will go a long way towards giving you that Christmas feeling. The smell of real pine is much better than the smell of that crappy spray stuff that smells like a house hold cleaner....

I just don't like Christmas on general principal. It is a big commercial holiday, trying to get people to spend money on things people don't need and can't afford. kids believe in a fat man in red velvet clothes that knows if your naughty or nice but they don't believe in God. and my birthday is on the 23rd. After my oldest brother informed me about the fat man in red, I was asked if I wanted a nice Christmas present or a nice birthday present.
I had the same problem when I was a kid. I was born 12/28 and cheap relatives would always say "Merry Christmas and Happy Birthday" and give me one gift. I don't care now because Christmas is for the grandchildren, but it would make me mad back then.

If you have the room plant your own tree every year. Fertilize, water, and trim it yourself during the year and in December cut down the oldest tree. Usually takes three to five years for the oldest tree to be ready, less if you want a smaller tree. After cutting the oldest tree, plant another to take it's place. No expensive tree hunting and you've got one ready for next year. Also, you don't have to worry about freshness.

That would suck. Although, it's not the fault of Christmas, it's a timing fault of your parents back in March or April of that year.

I don't hate Christmas.

But somehow I think the purpose of the celebration is lost on most.

The one Who's Birtht is being celebrated was the One who expelled the merchants and the money changers from the Temple.

The "fat man in the red suit" was invented by Coca Cola. St. Nicholas has nothing to do with him.

Christmas trees are a pagan rite.

The "Christians of old" Christmas instead of decorated trees had this:

A "naif" version of the Adoration of Christ.

I'm all for the artificial trees, the real ones really upset my allergies and I also like a tree that is pre-lighted with LED lights that don't burn out. We have a 9 ft tall slender tree that we store in our upstairs walk-out attic and its wrapped in a bag and all we have to do is carry it down, unzip the bag, put some ornaments on, and plug it in. My wife loves to decorate it differently every year with new ribbon or feathers or nick naks and it always looks gorgeous.

This is our family Christmas Tree

Either my mother or my grandmother made it before I was born. So that's the family tradition behind it. It has one light bulb in it and it's the size of a blender it sits in a box in the hall closet all year and takes a minute and a half to put up.

In all seriousness though, that tree is a memory I've had my whole life and it's not Christmas till it's up. But it's still extremely low maintenance and that's a plus

My grandmother made one like that when I was a kid. Wish I had it. I do have a beer stein, a brahma bull, and a lion she made, though.

We will go cut a tree each year on property we own. It is a fun time and about all I do as far as decorating.

The all new and improved Christmas tree,,,decorated and I even have it hooked up to a remote control!
The wife is happy! :D

I happened to look at a Lowe's mail flier and I saw the trees advertised. I thought at first they were real trees and I thought holy cow they were expensive. Then I read that they were artificial trees and I thought holy cow that is r e a l l y expensive.
I gave away my artificial tree years ago because I didn't even put it up anymore. I don't do any decorating anymore because I just can't get into the spirit of it now being such a commercialized "holiday" thing.

Don't know why my pics don't post in the correct manor?

On a side note,,,,I was really looking for a tree like this!....

Nottttt!!!!.......

My dad had a TV sales & service store that had big front windows. He had one of those aluminum trees with the light tinting it. He also had a color TV in the front window with a speaker put outside so people that couldn't afford a color TV could sit in their cars in the parking lot to watch the TV and hear it also. Quite often people would be watching the TV.

Gave up on dead or synthetic trees

The lights are still on from last year. Just need a little more snow! Will light on Dec. 21 as usual.

Christmas is supposed to be a religious holiday, and although I am not religious any more, I appreciate it for that. I detest the commercialization and try like heck to avoid stores except for food, the post office, etc. It helps me avoid the strong temptation to give someone the elbow in the throat that they deserve.
