Why is Smith and Wesson wanting to change their name to American Outdoors Holding Corporation?

As a owner of their stock I voted NO but do not understand the theory behind it. It they want a portfolio of brands then they can sell the Smith and Wesson brand off to someone who can manage it better but to change Smith and Wesson to American Outdoors?

Buy a smaller rifle maker and produce rifles under another marker but don't create some shell to hold Smith and Wesson with and then funnel the profits to other failed brands you are trying to create. Smith and Wesson is an old successful brand, why do something that could damage that?

S&W isn't changing their name....

The holding company with subsidiaries along with Smith and Wesson is changing its name to reflect more diversified areas that they will begin to market. S&W has been owned by several companies and hasn't changed their name yet. They could have been called Bangor Punta when they owned S&W.

"Hey, I got a new Bangor Punta Model 10!"
