Just curious why the Magpul Pmags seem to be so popular. Is it due to better design or quality? Price? Availability? Weight?
I just got my sport and am beginning to look for deals on mags. Can never have too many magazines, right? :D

Inexpensive, reliable feed, very durable, quieter stacked against each other than metal mags, etc. They hold up better than an aluminum mag to the "stomp em with your boot" test.

all the above. They are a proven magazine, some like them more then the aluminum magazines some not as much. I think it will turn into what you personally like best.

Besides if this Hummer can't hurt it it's good by me. Just don't run over the feed lips with your armored Hummer doing 30mph. And these guys recommend them.

They are more durable and more consistent than the aluminum or steel mags. Plus, they hold the rounds a little better. This is important on a bolt open reload.

Because they have an absolute capacity of 31 rounds and a functional capacity of 30 rounds.

:)

I've had good reliable with USGI and Pmags as long as the usgi mags had magpul followers. All of my Pmags (40ish) drop free from all three of my rifles while 25% of my usgi won't.

Dsg arms has 10 Pmags shipped for under $95, you can't beat that.

Are the 20 round P Mags as good as the 30s? I prefer 20 round mags and am using mostly USGI 20s. I just don't like the mag sticking out of the well as much as the 30s do.

If you keep them loaded, make sure you employ the "dust cover" sold with the later mags. Takes the pressure off the feed lips which will deform over time. I prefer metal mags as I am not planning to run over them with a Hummer. Joe

The m2 "straight" versions weren't that great but the newer m3 20 rounders are awesome.

+1 for the dust covers. I bought a pack of 5 so I can keep some mags loaded up all the time without worrying about deforming them.

Don't know how long before they do deform but here's reply I got from Magpul about leaving the loaded. Like I stated before everyone have their own opinions and buy what you want there not expensive now until the next panic. You can fin P-Mags for less then $10 each if you look and if you buy USGI mags you may want to replace the followers with Magpul followers. Then again why not just buy the P-Mags in the first place.

"Thank you for your inquiry. The factor that truly wears out quality springs is compression cycles, not constant compression. However, we use a high-quality stainless steel springs in our PMAGs and if one ever does happen to wear out any USGI spec spring can be swapped out for the factory one.

Regarding the question of how long, we’ve had magazines fully loaded for over four years now with no Impact/Dust Cover on and have experienced no feed lip or spring issues. With the cover installed storage life is considered indefinite. There have also been PMAGS reportedly tested to hundreds-of-thousands of rounds (military vetting), and we know positively of ones that have gone tens-of-thousands, so usable life is quite excellent too.

I was wanting a couple of ten round mags and found Pmags on sale so I bought them. Brought them home, tried them out and immediately made plans to replace all my other mags with Pmags. That was about the time Commy Colorado was passing stupid gun laws. So I bought a bunch of Magpul stuff including PMags, to show my support and get the best mags on the market. No regrets at all.

I've had a couple of P-Mags fully loaded without dust covers and experienced no degradation in performance. I guess they could deform, but it would take a crazy long time.

Why? Because they are the best. I honestly like the 20 rounders the best, due to length and to lack of volume I burn through at the range. :p

They are lighter by a good bit. The ribbing on them make them easy to hold on to. Best of all is They work like they are supposed to. Price is good also. They are priced right most of the time. Love them.

LOL Umm Wally World near me is selling ZQ 55 grain 30 round boxes for $9.97. IE: 300 rounds for just under $100. That's within a few cents of the best price coming up on Ammoseek.

Oh and +1 for PMAG, pretty much all I can find for sale around me anyway.

I've had 4 X 30rd PMAGS loaded and ready to go since I bought my 15-Sport 4 years ago. I use the mag caps. The mags function flawlessly.

Just remember this ammo is

Bullet Material Jacket:Gilding Metal Brass
Core: Steel and Lead-Antimony Alloy

Some ranges don't allow steel core ammo. I use it with no problems at the farm and my range doesn't care.
