Wife said "Shouldn't we buy a new AR-15 before the election?"....

I have been feeling pretty smug with my gun collection, having most bases covered for my shooting habits. I have owned AR-15's in the past, and enjoyed shooting them in High Power Rifle Competition, USPSA shooting, Three Gun, etc., but didn't have one on hand till the other day.

A few weeks ago, in the Sunday paper was an ad from "Dunhams", a big box sporting good house not far away. They had AR-15's on sale, several varieties including the S&W Sport. Sale price was $649, putting it in the going rate category, not a great deal but better than their usual price of $749. The Wife said " Maybe we should put one of these AR's on layaway, no telling how the election will affect AR-15 availability and price". This from a woman who cares little for guns most days.

Finished my coffee quickly, left the house and struck out for Dunhams. They had one Sport in stock, gave them some money down and put it on layaway.

Picked it up the other day, after an hour and a half doing the paperwork at Dunhams. I won't bore you with the details, suffice it to say I probably won't buy a gun from them again. Folks at this Dunhams know little about guns and the paperwork process and back ground check system, plus the fact that during the process the clerk was the only guy in the store, trying to run the registers up front, stock merchandise and do paper work on a gun sale, Anyway, the S&W Sport is now mine:

I haven't shot the rifle yet, have to pick up some ammo next week, but I have had experience helping other new Sport owners sight in their new rifles at the gun club I used to belong to, so I have high expectations for this new rifle. Pick up a sling, some more magazines.....

So, thanks to my wife's far sighted look into the future, I'm ready for anything, no matter what the post election world looks like.

Good move... no question about it. Wish we could still buy them here in loony moonbat Massachusetts but our nutcase AG lady unilaterally banned them on 7/20/2016. No election or legislation required.

Nice weapon! Mine is hanging out in the corner of the room currently.

I share your wife's sentiment.....i have a friend keeps asking when I'd sell him my Bushy....I keep hedging.....I dont use it much, just not sure where we're going. Dont want to be in the "I wish I had kept it" club...(any more than I already am).....

Since the last "panic", my wife has passed her NRA pistol course, acquired her carry permit, and taken a new attitude towards my hobby and impressed teachers with her tactical reloads. Mama bears take no chances with their cubs.

If you don't need the money, I would keep it, whether it gets shot much or not. You can always sell it later.

I got my Sports last year and I only shot it a few times, maybe about 300 rounds so far. I got it for "in case of" with an ammo box full of 223/556 ammo and 4 mags.

Better to have it and not need it than to need it but not have it.

I think if we give our wives half a chance, they'll "surprise" us like this more often. Mine saw me looking at an add, and wondered what I was looking at. When I told her, she said "If you want it, go get one."
