Will S&W make a 686+ 7 shot 357 ball detent?

I really love my 69 4" but I want a 7 round L frame 357 with the new features.
I don't want the lawyer "common sense feature " but I will take it :-(

IMHO--YOU SHOULD SEARCH FOR A GOOD USED, PRE-LOCK 686+. A QUALIFIED GUNSMITH WOULD BE ABLE TO INSTALL A BALL DETENT, INTO YOUR REVOLVER.....

McMASTER-CARR CARRIES AN APPROPRIATE, PRE ASSEMBLED BALL DETENT, IN THEIR ON-LINE CATALOG. THE PART NUMBER IS 84835A11......

ALSO---IF YOU RUN ACROSS A NICE USED 686 NO-DASH, OR 686-1, THAT DOES NOT HAVE THE "M" STAMP, INDICATING THAT IT WAS MODIFIED AS PER THE RECALL, YOU CAN CALL FOR A SHIPPING LABEL, AND SEND IT TO S&W FOR THAT MOD---WITH FREE SHIPPING, BOTH WAYS......

WHILE ITS THERE, YOU CAN HAVE YOUR 6 SHOT CYLINDER REPLACED WITH A FACTORY FITTED, 7 SHOT CYLINDER. I USED THIS TACTIC TO CREATE THE NO-DASH 686+ PICTURED BELOW. THE COST WAS A TAD LESS THAN $120. IN TOTAL, FOR THE CYLINDER AND THE LABOR. I WANTED A RELIABLE 7 SHOT, PRE-LOCK, L FRAME, IN .357, FOR EDC......

I LATER SOLD THE ORIGINAL 6 SHOT CYLINDER AND THE COMBAT STOCKS, ON THIS FORUM, TO HELP FINANCE THE PROJECT......

I PRESUME THAT THESE GUNS, WITH BALL DETENTS, ARE PRODUCED IN THE PERFORMANCE CENTER.......

THIS JUST VALIDATES MY HUMBLE OPINION THAT QUALITY CONTROL SEEMS TO BE NO BETTER WITH PC GUNS, THAN WITH GUNS OFF THE REGULAR PRODUCTION LINE......

My new model 66 has a ball detent, and is about 100 bucks cheaper than a 686+.
Blue case- non performance center model
Honestly, I've shot most models. I don't see too much improvement. But most models with the detent are PC models.

As stated, the ball detent can be added by a competent smith, or perhaps the Custom Shop may even do it for a fee. While it's a nice feature, it's not a deal breaker for me.

OP, have you looked at the latest 686-6 from the PC? I got one last week and it's a beauty. The only thing I didn't like was the stock front sight, which was quickly replaced.

Find a early 686, as has been pointed out any decent 'smith should be able to install a ball detent, and pick up a 7 shot 386 cyl and have it fit. That would make for a slick 7 shooter without the lock.

You do know that sight ribs were being made for S&W long before the Python don't you? Although Colt was the first to make a ventilated one integrated to a revolver. Regardless, it wasn't Colt's ascetics many don't like (as evidenced by the number of Colt barrels that made appearances on S&W frames), it was their price and timing issues.
