It is an ugly guitar with a great sound!
Does it really sound better than other Martins of the same age and model?

Many years ago, he let me play it for about a minute. It played well and didn't have as much bottom end as I would have thought but that is all irrelevant as it all gets washed by the front of house engineer.

PS: besides music,we also share another fondness.
So does Woody Harrelson (imagine yellow smile face here).

It might be aesthetically unpleasing but IMO it is great looking as it is honest wear.
It is not wore from being blatantly abused.
I really like it the same way I prefer blue worn well used guns that are still mechanically perfect. They are much more interesting than new shiney ones. But that guitar takes honest wear to a new level. I think it said he got the guitar in 1969. That's not all that long ago for it to get that worn it seems. Unless you play it exclusively every day and every show 48 years.

The first time I saw it was about 1977, I think, in a lounge in Vegas.
We were sitting pretty close, about 10-12 feet from the band.
Trigger was already pretty beat up and I remember the hole being bigger than it looks today.
There were a number of ink autographs on it.
I recall seeing Kris and Rita Coolidge among others.
Remember- just like Willie says in the OP video-
The damage was done using a pick with no pick guard.

I watched those a couple days ago and enjoyed both. I was also curious about the two different answers for the cause of the damage in each video, maybe it is from a combination of both.

As far as I'm concerned Dyan Cannon was IT in Honeysuckle Rose. Then I met my wife in the 80s who is Hispanic and she had the same hair and face shape but only 4'11". Think about that movie. Willie really had it made. He has this gorgous wife who is totally cool and suportive. Then he fools around with his best pal's super cute daughter. THEN in the end his wife takes him back, his buddy forgives him instantly, they sing together on stage, and the girl he cheated with is left out in the cold. What a lucky guy!

Matt, I recall, a while back, commenting on that photo that your wife has Ruthie beat by an inch. Good things come in small packages.
