Is WIN 748 a good powder to use for 308 win? I have been using IMR 4350 but I am not really satisfied with it.

I generally load 165 grain bullets in .308.

748 is good. I have gotten excellent results with IMR4064. Check out the Sierra manual and the suggested accuracy load. It works for me.

748 works good in my Ruger 308 & it is not a bull barrel. Varget is about the same. 165s are to much for me as I cant stand to many. I use Sierra Spitzer 125s for a varmint bullet.

4350 is too slow; I've had good results with: Win 748, IMR 4064, Varget & RL-15. I shoot almost exclusively 165-170 gr bullets; my best accuracy is with RL-15, but I save that for the bolt gun. I use 748 exclusively in the M1A, being a ball powder it meters so much nicer. Somewhere towards the top end of the load data is where it does best.

IMR 4350 is too slow for best results in the 308 as the others have
stated. 748 is one of the very best powders in the 308 with 150 and
165 gr bullets when top velocity with normal pressure is desired. Match
shooters usually prefer one of the extruded powders in the same
burning rate range for top accuracy with loads a bit below maximum
pressures.

Lots of good powders for 308, and use 748 for 125-168 grain bullets in bolt, semi and lever action 308. It seems to prefer magnum primers for accuracy, even if they are not deemed "necessary".

It also works very well for 223, 30-30, 307 win and 300 savage.

Yes W748 is a good powder for the 308 .

I used it in a light weight Winchester model 100 Auto when I
was in my 20's with a 150gr bullet for California Black tail deer.

If you use enough powder the rifle scope will do a great job of "Blood letting" over your scope eye and let you enjoy a huge headache also !!

Have fun.

I use 748 exclusively in 308 and 223. It's a great powder and it meters very well too, a huge advantage over stick powders like 4350.

Yes, you can use W748 in the 308 and it will perform well.

IMO the best .308 Win powder is IMR4064.
BL-C(2), Varget, AA2520, AA4064, RL-15 and a few others are also very good choices.

WW748 is excellent in my Rem 788 -- 308.Meters accurately because its a ball powder and is clean in my rifle.

I use it my .308 PTR-91 and my .223 AR. Great powder to meter out of my Dillon 550B.
Ball powder that works good in progressive loaders. Good accuracy and velocities.
