Winchester 16 gauge Model 12

What are 16 gauge Model 12 pumps selling for these days?? 28" full choke, 1948 mfg. date. Looks almost new with little use. Original factory condition, no refinishing or restoration. Thanks!

I bought one at an auction about 10 years ago.

It had been sent to Simmons for refinishing, addition of a vented rib and a Polychoke.

I paid $200 for it.

The Polychoke is ugly, but makes a much more useful gun than the original (and common) full choke barrel.

Ive been looking at that exact configuration on gunbroker and minty ones seem to land right around 700.00 to 800.00.

The Polychoke works, but they kill the collector's value.

In my area, I'd say a 16 gauge that nice would be a $850 to $950 gun.

There are some on Guns International. The lowest I saw was $545. Most are upwards of $1000. Great guns.

Theres a really nice one on GB right now that has the toe of the buttstock chipped off with a buy it now price of 575.00. I dont think anyone is going to bid on it.

I have a good friend who bought the same gun at LGS about 6-8 months ago. If I recall correctly he paid their asking price which was $850. I'd say his was about a 90% gun. Hope this helps.

May depend on where you live. Lots of model 12s here in the Indiana corn belt. Actual selling price of a really nice model 12 field grade in 16 about $600 tops. 12 ga a bit less, 20 maybe a little more.

Because there's a lot more 12s out there than 16s. 28s are the scarce ones. People always think any thing a bit harder to find is a "collector's item".

I have a Model 12 in 16 as well as one in 12. I have been told that the 16 was made on the same frame as the 20. For me, the 16 seems to handle much better than the 12. I really like mine a lot.

Have hunted with 16's all my life. Nice, lightweight shotgun. Plenty for squirrels, rabbits, and birds. Even killed turkeys with one at a reasonable range.

OP, what you described sounds like a gem.

Do whatever it takes to obtain it, and don't look back.

My 26 inch full choke 16 gauge, 1925 made.

Wouldn't get rid of it for anything.

Mine is a model 1912 built in 1913 I bought it for less than $400 years ago. I also have a model 1912 12 gauge made in 1917 with a short barrel that serves as my house gun . Both are keepers.
