I got some of the new Winchester Silvertips and immediately tried them out in my Model 43C. I fired a cylinder full, eight rounds and was not able to extract them in the normal fashion. I ended up removing the fired casings one at a time with a small diameter dowel rod. Two of the eight cases were split at the rim and the barrel and chamber throats of the 43C were severely leaded. This was the first time I had encountered sticky extraction with my 43C.

I next tried six rounds each in two revolvers that never give extraction problems, a Model 63-3 and a Model 17-3. I got sticky extraction with both and had to use the dowel rod again to remove the fired cases. There were no split cases in the steel guns, but again, I got severe leading.

I would like to think I just got a bad batch, does anyone else have any experience with this ammunition?

Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences.

I have no experience with that particular round but I have extensive experience with "inconsistent powder charges" in almost all .22lr from just about every manufacturer. Joe

I strongly suggest you contact Winchester about this as it's clearly over normal pressure ammo (maybe proof loads?). They'll send you a pre-paid mailing label to return the ammo and give you a replacement.
