I have a pre-64 M/70 Winchester rifle and more than 50 yrs. of hunting has taken it's toll on the stock finish. I am looking for a quality wood refinisher to restore this stock to it's former condition. The stock is sound with no other problems, just needs refinishing. Your reccomendations are appreciated. Thanks!

i believe gander mountain and briley will do it. doug turnbull might do the best work if you don't mind the price and waiting time.

To clarify what I am looking for, I am looking for a refinisher who can refinish my rifle's stock in a style that compares to its original finish. Mr. Turnbull does wonderful work, however I am not looking for a museum quality restoration. I just want to have my old hunting rifle redone. I prefer a recommendation of someone with whom you've done business and whose work you are familiar with.

I do my own stocks.

Putting a hunting grade refinish on a wood stock is not a big deal if you understand any woodworking and can follow directions. Putiing a restoration finish on a vintage stock is more difficult.

I also do my own checkering, which is NOT quick and easy to learn.
