Let me start by saying I’m not a cartridge expert . . . but then you’ll soon recognize that fact by my questions. I’d appreciate any insights into this Winchester 22 Super-Speed 37gr copper clad hollow point ammunition that came out of an old hardware store. How old is this ammo? Is “Super-Speed” simply a Winchester trademark for Hi-Velocity . . . or are these super high speed (a.k.a. high pressure) cartridges and I should be careful what I use them in?
• The front of the cardboard label reads “SS/22LRH1”
• The back of the cardboard label reads
o WINCHESTER-WESTERN
o NEW HAVEN, CONN EAST ALTON, ILL
o OLIN
• The headstamp is “H”. According to the cartridge-collectors.org website
o “W’ means “Winchester Repeating Arms Co., Bridgeport, CT
o “W-W” means Winchester-Western (Olin), East Alton, IL
o “H” means Winchester Repeating Arms Co., New Haven, CT
These copper clad hollow points are packaged in 100 round plastic trays . . . suggesting to me they are vintage 70’s or newer. What say the experts?
Thanks, Russ
