Take your time, and do this right. If your AR is a flat top (it must be, since it has no sights) you won't need a base. So you first need good rings. You need to figure out if the scope/optics are 1", 30mm, or have a built in mount. For a lower power scope, I would get a good set of 1" steel rings. Then a used scope in the 4x range. Then with a realistic scope budget get something in the 4.5-14 x 40mm range. I have a V-X III Leopold in that power on my AR. On a bright day we can stretch ground hog hunting to 500 yards (With good ammo). A good scope will last decades (Leopold has a forever warranty). If you are thinking more of a red dot, Sightron makes some very good ones. I have no experience with reflex sights. An AR can do some pretty good shooting, just maintain it well and keep the barrel from over heating with lots of rapid shots, also keep the copper cleaned out of the barrel, and your barrel life should be more than 5000 rounds. With abuse you can mess a barrel up in less than 500. I wasn't in the military so I cleaned my AR like a bolt gun, my son that was a Marine about tore me a new one, over all the carbon I let build up in my bolt. I have in the 2000-2500 range of shots fired and the barrel will still do 1/4" groups (5 shot) at 200 yards. Have fun shooting. Ivan
