Many years ago, (when Hector was a pup), I bought what I was convinced was a lifetime supply of Peters Standard Velocity .22 lr from NRA/CMP.
For many years all was great, but as the supply diminished, I started saving the Peters for Sunday Best, then for my Birthday Shoot only, but now it's almost gone.
It seems to me that shooting your last of a lifetime supply would be hubris which might bring on nemesis, perhaps in the form of a POTUS who could take away all of my playthings. Perhaps my inability to buy primers is an early warning which I should heed.
I decided to build up my supply. The young fellow at the gun store never heard of Peters, he tried to sell me Mexican Ammunition of which he had very little. The CMP wants to sell me out-of-stock Mexican also.
I not sure that I could get it even if anyone had it to ship. I went down to the Railroad Express Agency, the guys with the neat hats are gone, people are selling pizza in the building, the tracks are gone and people are riding bicycles where the tracks used to be. Someone said something about Brown Trucks and CCI, but I believe in Peters SD and trains.
Is all lost? Should I save the last few rounds to avoid the deluge? Can anyone out there help me out with a few thousand rounds of Peters SD in the red, white and blue box?
