Women's guide to buying your first handgun

There is always a revolver if its hard to load a magazine. I have a couple of pistols that I wear leather gloves to load the magazines because it hurts my fingers.

I just discovered the cornered cat www.corneredcat.com web site myself, and am currently doing my best to read as much of it as I can. No one here should feel to "macho" to take advantage of this site and all it has to offer.

I bought something I didn't think would probably work, but wanted to give it a try. It's called the UPLULA Universal Pistol Magazine Loader. I took it to a class at Front Sight which involved shooting about 1,000 rounds in 5 days. The thing really worked - saved my hands plus made the task quicker. Everyone there who saw it, wanted one.

The usual loaders only push down the follower or the top bullet and then you have to force the bullet in and get the loader out of the way. This loader articulates so you use your whole hand to push the bullets down, then just drop the bullet in with your other hand, release pressure, let the loader rise, then do it again. You get a little rhythm going and can load magazines really fast. And it works with all my magazines, single and double stack.

My wife really appreciates this thing because without it, she can barely push the bullets into the magazine, and gets her fingers scraped up.

Titan,

Thanks for posting that link!! I am passing it on to some of our women friends that shoot and are leary of getting into self defence with handguns.

You're welcome.

My wife and daughter both love that sight, and as 'reerc' noted, I visit it myself occasionally.

There certainly is a lot of useful data there for everyone, even though the site is oriented primarily for women.

Another thing you might watch for is a re-run of a Wednesday night episode of 'Shooting Gallery' (of maybe it was Shooting USA). The program was devoted to the Smith & Wesson Ladies Clinic. The specific one they aired was taught by Jerry Miculek's wife to a group of thirty or so women who were all newbies to shooting.

It showed the tremendous progression of the women over a three day course. Many began day one with signicant timidity and some reservations and by day 3 they were full of enthusiasm and practicing competitive shooting stages.
