Jules bought a $5 Maine State Lottery scratch ticket this week. She won the grand prize. An all expenses paid trip to Vegas at the Palms Casino. Flights, ground trasportation, 5 nights in a suite, all our meals, gambing and spending cash, vouchers to the shows at the other casino's....pretty much everything...

Guess who gets to pay the taxes?

Jim,

I figure that between the Feds and my State....I'll owe more in taxes then the trip is really worth.

I hate the Lottery....I don't play. Figure I work to hard to give it away.

But I love my wife and she's on the moon over this. Suck it up and time to man up with a big o' smile...

See if you can go for 3 days and get the rest in cash....When I worked on the world poker tour I had to stay for 5 days...way too long for Vegas...:)

I have to agree here. I'm not a gambler, so I get bored in Vegas easily. There are some other attractions in the area, like the Grand Canyon and Hoover dam.

Enjoy your stay, look up a few forum members in the area.

Even not being a serious gambler, I enjoyed a five-day trip to Vegas a couple years ago. Played a little on the slots (and rarely won), and a good bit on the tables (and paid for my trip), but mostly enjoyed the sights and shows, food, etc.

If you're into shows, Cirque du Soleil is a can't-miss. Monty Python's "Spamalot" was great, not sure if it's still running.

Food ... there's tons of good food and drink. We enjoyed an evening in "Red Square" bar, at Mandalay Bay. Soviet-themed vodka bar, with a 12-inch wide block of ice running the length of the bar to keep your drinks cold. Neat place and excellent vodka selection.

First prize - 3 days in Vegas!

Second prize - 5 days in Vegas!

:D

I'm not a gambler...so I am interested in what to do and see while we are there. I want to take a trip to see Hoover Dam...what other day trips are there in the area?

My wife won 1500 on a slot machine a few years back. We split equally-she got the $1500 and I got the 1099. I suggested that she put some away for the taxes and she just gave me that "rattlesnake about ready to bite your face" look. Worst part about it was that she won the money on December 29th. :(

Five days in vegas is quite awhile. If you want to get away for just a afternoon, rent a car and drive west on blue diamound road towards pahrump and see red rock canyon recreation area. Its only 20 miles, scenic and close. If you wanted to do a entire day trip you could drive to Zion national park, and still get back to vegas that night. I live near it and it is worth it. Round trip to zion from vegas is 330 miles, however 90 % of the way is freeway on I-15 at 75 mph, most do 85. It sure would be a change of scenery for you. Or death valley to the west would also be about a 300 mile loop, but slower roads.
