My son turned 21 in July and shortly after that, took KY's CCW class and applied for his permit. He has had my full size SW99 in 40 cal for the past month or so. Yesterday he went to Buds and came home with a........it pains me to say/print this................. a NIB Glock 23.

I guess it's because of his youth.............but I have yet to teach him the appreciation I have for the Smiths.......even though that is what he grew up shooting.

Maybe one day he will see the errors of his way.

I own a Glock..yes I do..they be good guns.

My son in law is a Deputy Sheriff. His gun of choice was a Glock .45acp(whatever model)..next thing I know..he's got a Sig 1911 of some sort for his duty weapon, but still got the Glock.

The Glocks will be with us until time comes to an end..best get use to it. Next to the 1911..the poly framed Glock has to be one of the most cloned and imitated auto-pistols made..everybody has a plastic framed offering.

I've said this several times before when these threads come up.........I love accumulating and shooting my S&W's, but it's the Glock M23 that I keep close at hand.

I don't own a Glock. Doubt if I ever will. I outgrew plastic guns when I was 7 years old.

I've got a Glock 19. Have actually owned it for a long time...it's a "2nd Generation". Had a 3rd Gen Model 30...I think that's what they call it...but sold that. The 19 has "stove-piped" on me a couple times at the range. I had a Glock guy (actually "THE" Glock guy for the Northeast) go through it and update the internals to the newest specs. Haven't shot it since getting it back. It will, no doubt, go "bang". Truth is, next time I go shooting, I plan on bringing a 1911, an S&W Model 13, and maybe a .22 plinker (Ruger or Smith). To me, a Glock is a tool, whereas a fine S&W revolver is artwork. They both have their reason for being. :)

Ah don't worry Pop...He'll come around, it's jest a fad anyhows.

When he get's our age, he'll be looking for them ol pre-war Smiths as well.
Quality never goes outta style. ;)

Just lend a guiding hand where's ya can :D

My son went down that same twisted path...Last time he came by here,
he pick 'imself out a nice post war HD with steer head Ivories to carry whilst choring around the ranch.

He's startin to come 'round to the right way of thinkin

I have purchased eight Glocks in the last two years, one new, seven used. I used to not care for them, but can now appreciate Glocks for what they are. Glock's are affordable, reliable, dependable, relatively inexpensive, plentiful, and easy enough to replace. What more can one ask for?

I don't own any Glocks, and don't ever plan on it. Every one I have held just doesn't feel right in my hand. I am sure they are fine guns, you can't sell millions of them by producing an inferior product.

It isn't that I dislike the maker, I just dislike the way they feel to me. If your gun doesn't feel right, it won't shoot right.

My son showed up here this summer with a Glock too. Thought I raised him better. Daughter still has her 2 1/2-inch 686 plus. She's doing okay. Should have beaten that boy more though.

I love my Smiths, but I do own and carry one Glock 27, It's my favorite carry piece next to my Md# 36!
My opinion,,,, no shame in it! ;) The lad just has to learn his priorities! :)

Craftsmanship, classic styling, history, investment value....and soul. :)

My son is currently flying around Helmand Province (Afghanistan). Prior to going over he got introduced to the M9 service pistol. He was not impressed but that's what he wears--period. He got a Model 15 in his early teens, and he always liked it. It'll be interesting to see what, if any changes in his preferences we have after this.

I can understand the logic behind a certain degree of standardization but it's not like things will grind to a halt if someone resorts to a non-standard sidearm when the Zulus are coming over the ramparts.

Years ago as a plainclothes LEO I got away with carrying a LW Commander with ivories (for a while, anyway), and was still carrying my contrarian revolver of preference when I hung it up. If distinctive was good for George Patton it ought to be good for everyone!

Oh, I thought you were going to say he joined the Marine Corps.:D

As far as the Glock thing goes, gun choices are a very personal matter. You obviously taught him to be thoughtful.

I expect you will do the right thing and.....disown him....yes?

hehehe......

When my older son was home on r&r during his first deployment I bought him a Les Baer Thunder Ranch Commanche (like his dad he prefers the 1911 to everything else heehee).

I also had a Beretta Elite II for a bit & even though it's a decock he trained heavily on it before his first deployment-as a Combat Medic he's been issued the M9 in addition to his M4 on all of his deployments.

He now also has my late father's 686 no dash 4". It was also the first centerfire handgun he ever fired as youngster.

He doesn't care for Glocks-it's the grip angle that's the issue for both of us actually. I know he's now in the market for a 640 (.38spl) & next to his 1911s (he also has a ParaOrd P14 marketed specifically to members of the military with his infantry division/combat patch & "OIF" markings) he appreciates S&W wheelies too.

Give your son some time, he'll find his own path back to the fold.

My brother carries a Glock as his backup weapon. But then he always has been a little strange. He was one of those Army guys that jumped out of perfectly good aircraft.

As for me, like someone else said, I just don't like the way they feel in my hand. If you gave me a Glock, I would either sell it and buy or trade it in for a S&W or Colt 1911.

My identical-twin brother was a career LEO. He really liked the Glocks. I tried a 21... liked it. Then I got a 17L... fine pistol. Now years later... I have a G-22RTF. Very excellent pistol. I love my S&W revolvers. But the Glock is on the nightstand... and when I'm on the road, it's in the car or in the motel room.

he could have AT LEAST got a S&W "glock" or a sigma as they are called, dammit.:(
