This is about music, not Tiger tanks.

Some of my friends, who are drifting back toward Glenn Miller and whose idea of edgy are the Jersey Boys, are a bit appalled that my musical tastes seem to get weirder as I get older.

Yesterday at dinner a friend's teenage son, who knows I'm into military history, insisted I had to check out this band he found on YouTube, and showed me enough of this video on his phone to pique my interest.

It's a Swedish band called Sabaton, and they do Heavy Metal with military history themes. This one is called "Screaming Eagles" and is about Bastogne. It starts with McAuliffe's famous quote; you can google the lyrics, it's straightforward, not anti-military and there is nothing political either left or right, somewhat refreshing for a European band. The music is good, and for a music video, the reenactments are reasonably well-done, too.

If you should find yourself liking the style, there's more videos in the recommendations. I watched one called "Uprising" about the 1944 Warsaw uprising which is also pretty good.

Exciting.....

it's really exciting and I like it with the video especially. Some of the footage looks real with some additional angles added. It surely is a different subject for a metal band to take up. They do a pretty good job of it.

PS See the red hot machine gun muzzles? I guess if you were under pressure the 'fire in bursts' thing might go out the window.

While it's refreshing to see hairy tattooed musicians who aren't rhapsodizing about killing policemen or ingesting controlled substances, I'm afraid I found this yet another example of amplifiers substituting for talent.
