I've found very few writers today that are of the same caliber of Warren Paige, Elmer Keith, Grits Greshem, Townsend Whelen, Robert Ruark, Jack O'Conner, etc. Lately I've been enjoying assorted works from Peter Hathaway Capstick. Do any of you have any suggestions of currently available books that would possibly be of interes to me? Most current writers seem to me to be a commercial, robotic extension of one company or another.

Things are different now. So are the writers.

I like Massad (Mas) Ayoob, even though he's not like the guys listed.

I don't think he's a commercial, robotic extension of one company or another.

I'm told that Mas has a new book out - The Gun Digest Book of Concealed Carry.

Haven't gotten it, but I like his Gun Digest Book of Combat Handgunnery.

Others on here have recommended other of his books as well.

For fast paced fiction not far from today's headlines pick anything by Vince Flynn. I think his website is www.vinceflynn.com. Page turning, nonstop action, lots of guns and terrorists, politicians etc..

All the old writers are gone now.

...and most of their works are sadly out of print.
