I don't live in Georgia but have offered to help a friend who lives there find & purchase their first S&W revolver.

Was looking for advice on quality gun shows, gun & pawn shops in or near Atlanta around which we could organize our search.

Thanks!

There is a gun show just about every weekend here in Atl, I've had mixed feelings about the shows, you end up spending $8.00 to get in and about all they have is tacticool ware. But you can take a look at the various gun show sites:

Eastman Gun Shows

RK Gun Shows

I can give you a couple of shops on the east side of town that may have something in the form of a S&W revolver for you. Closest to town I may start a Tucker Gun, Candler Rd. Pawn; a little further out (Athens) are bigger stores, Franklin's Sporting Goods and Clyde's Armory. Franklin's has a very good selection normally for S&Ws, their annual cost day sale will be coming up the first weekend in February...20% off normally on used, 15% off new. You may also try Ed's Pawn Shop in Stockbridge, them and Clyde's are LEO suppliers however I have't seen a lot of revolvers at either.

These are the ones that come to mind when I think revolvers, there is a local shop in Covington that normally carries a good selection of J frames but they seldom have anything else for revolvers.

There will likely be someone else come along that may be able to help with shops downtown and north of town, I just don't get to those parts to buy guns.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Sam

What part of Atlanta is he in? What model does he want to purchase? New or used? I live in Gwinnett county and would be willing to help him search. I have found firearms for a few people on this forum, they were happy.

I also live in Gwinnett County...I really like the people at David's Firearms on Buford Hwy in Norcross Ga...Nice friendly folks...I have bought several guns at Tucker gun but don't care for the owner very much and their poor customer service when I used them for some Gunsmith work...They lost my pistol and took 4 months to find out where they sent it and never returned my phone calls about it....I have also bought several guns from Chris at The Gun Store also on Buford hwy in Chamblee Ga...Has many brands of revolvers and will work with you on prices. Another long time dealer is Chucks Firearms in Buckhead but it's been many years since I've been to his shop...Chuck retired and his sons took over the business but they have been there as long as I can remember...Another large seller is American Adventure on Hwy 41 in Maretta Ga. and they can order anything you want and their prices are pretty good and then there is always Bass Pro Shops and Dick's sporting goods but don't expect anything in the way of knowledgeable sales people or any price deals, Retail only and no returns...Hope this helps...

Autrey's Armory Inc in Fayetteville Ga. is who I would recommend. Good folks, fair prices, and have new S&Ws and often nice used stuff as well. Also a very nice gun range.

American Adventure on Hwy 41 in Maretta Ga

American Adventure is an amusement park (that is closed, by the way!). Are you thinking of Adventures Outdoor on Cobb Parkway?

Adventure Outdoors in Smyrna, Cobb County (and they are on South Cobb Drive NOT Cobb Pkwy/Hwy 41)

Chucks Firearms(SWCA member) in Buckhead, Fulton County

Autreys Armory in Fayetteville, Fayette County

Pannels in North Marietta/Canton, North Cobb County

Forget the gun shows in Ga. The ONLY worth a flip is the Eastman show at the North Atlanta Trade center, but Eastman shows are notorious for being high/over priced. Usually a Georgia gun show is waste of good show space.

Right now, Clyde's in Athens has quite a few police trade in Model 36's all under $300. Most show wear.

Next weekend is an Eastman show in Cobb County.

But if it's a J frame your after, the deal online at Bud's right now probably can't be beat.

Does anyone remember Deans on W. Peachtree in Atlanta. When did it go away?

Absolutely!
One of my all time favorite gunshops. I bought the Randall I took to VN at Dean's.
He later moved to .........was it Northside Drive??
I think they closed in the late 70's???

Sorry my bad...It is Adventure Outdoors on Cobb pky in Smyrna Ga..... Had a senior drain bamaged moment...:p

I remember it long ago...
It used to be run by the Wallace brothers- I don't know anymore.

I used to do a lot of business with Dewey Head up in Cornelia- at his shop below the Southern RR overpass. I have no idea of shops in Atlanta that give any deals- or even any up this way, as the shops don't seem to be very competitive anymore. :(
Too many tactical armchair mercenaries behind the counters instead of driven, hungry businessmen fighting for my cash.

I'll admit that the few "larger than life" independent retailers around has truly gone with the wind- I don't mean the size of the shop, but the size or the personality of the shop owner. Even more than the deal, I do want to enjoy actually handing over my cash. Old man Franklin was like that- kinda of a P.T. Barnum of the gun business. I remember when he advertised "the only place to get official Georgia dove stamps." Well, there was no such thing as dove stamps until he printed them. ;) People drove from all over just to come get the dove stamps- he was asked nicely by the game & fish commission to quit. There are a couple in the state still like this, but too far for me to visit them...

Anyway...other than looking, I don't think you'll do any better than going online and getting it through Buds or perhaps Larry's in Huntsville AL.

Hi Caliber in Holly Springs, Cherokee Pawn in Canton, Nick"s Guns in Marietta and Adventure Outdoors in Smyrna all have good selections. There will be a Eastman show Feb.19 and 20 at the NATC and a RK show March 5 and 6 at Atlanta Expo Ctr. on Jonesboro Rd.

Of all the gun stores I frequent, Bulls-Eye Indoor Range & Gun Shop in downtown Lawrenceville is IMO, the best. I have always been treated very well there and their prices are as good as you are likely to find. They usually have a lot of inverntory both new and used. I was there today firing on their indoor range. Used to get some good deals at the Candler Road Pawn Shop, but since I retired, I don't get by there anymore. Dean

Thanks, I appreciate everyone's input!

The primary target of our search is most likely to be a K-22 or Model 17. But, no telling what we may find of interest.

We'll map these out and plan an expedition around one of the up-coming guns shows.

Thanks again!

The posts above line out most of the stores in the area. In my experience it is hit or miss with S&W revolvers.

You'll hear grousing about some of the stores, Chuck's in particular, but I've gotten some good deals there. They tend to have some of the nicer stuff in the area, particularly shotguns. Occasionally they'll have a bunch of guns from an estate or divorce sale and some good deals can he had there. A few years ago I got a NIB Colt SAA with factory ivories for 1500 otd.

As far as the shows, very hit or miss, mostly miss, except for Harvey Broom from Fitzgerald. He always has some NICE Smiths. He's usually at the shows. Be prepared to pay him on the upper end of what the market is--I have not had luck getting him to move on his prices. But he definitely has the nicest and the most Smiths around. If you go to a show, you'll know who he is--he'll be the only guy there with a lot of NICE handguns, rifles and shotguns. Droolville.

No, Broom won't move on price.

But, drive from Atlanta to his shop in S Ga, and you will see that just attending those shows with all those guns and at least one other employee isn't cheap. Transporting the guns and motel rooms in Atlanta isn't cheap.

Even at that, his prices are better than most internet and classified prices, and you get to fondle your purchase before money changes hands.
He doesn't sell junk, either.

You are correct on all counts. I've bought from him in the past and will again if want and opportunity meet wherewithal...

Of course a couple hours south of Atlanta is Redlevel's NAPA, still a trip I want to make if only just to ogle.
