FS: Smith & Wesson 44 Hand Ejector Target with 4 inch barrel, also known as a pre-24. This gun is in used condition and would be considered as shooter grade, but is very rare in this configuration. First, I do NOT have a factory letter on this gun confirming it's configuration. Having said that, based on markings on the frame, condition of the rear sight blade, and compared to other known 4 inch examples with RR/WO sights; this gun appears to be factory original. Here's a recent thread with a gun that numbers very close to this one in the same configuration:

http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-hand-ejectors-1896-1961/469110-special-1950-target.html

Again, I do not have a letter to confirm this so that must be understood by any potential buyer. So, there is a chance this gun is not original but I believe those chances are small. Serial number is S118220, and there is a capital "B" stamped in the rear of the barrel shroud.

The history of this gun is that it was carried by a Long Beach Police Officer for many, many years. My understanding is that he may have been the original owner, but that could be speculation. I may be able to get additional information to confirm that. That'a about all I know as to it's history.

It does have several areas that make it shooter grade that are demonstrated in the photos. In order to ensure that those things are seen let me mention some of them, but full disclosure is provided via the photos provided. Be sure to look at the front sight including the pins and how the rear ramp of the front sight meets the barrel rib. The side plate screws are a little buggered and there are some scratches on the side plate from someone who wasn't very careful removing them. The middle edge of the recoil shield on the right side is worth noting. The rear of the grips have some damage as does the escutcheon on the left panel with a small crack on the outside of the grip that looks to have been treated with some sort of material (glue?) that has dried clear. The finish of the gun does show some shadow where the grips were mounted. Of course, there are other various areas of wear so please see the pictures and ask questions if you feel something isn't represented well.

Price includes shipping to your FFL. Please post an "I'll take it" followed by a PM. Of course, forum rules apply. If you are purchasing discreetly after the obligatory 24 hour period has passed, then please send me a PM stating "I'll take it." I'll accept various forms of payment so just let me know what you would like to do. I'm sorry but I am unable to do any trades on this pistol. Because of the price of this gun, I will grant a 3 day non-firing inspection at the buyers expense for shipping both ways. I will not incur the cost to ship a gun with insurance to someone, simply to have it returned. If returning, funds will be returned once gun is back in my possession, no exceptions.

I apologize if I am being stingy on the details but simply want to be very clear on the expectations with this rare pistol.

Price: $1925 shipped.
