Well everyone there are quite a few “likes”. However have not heard from anyone with pros or cons. The negative, an idiot who scratched his initials in 3 spots and fortunately he had a weak hand and they are very, very light. Also a small tapped hole in the front of the grip frame probably put there to add a grip adapter ( my guess).Remember this was shipped to the Toledo Rifle & Pistol Club and was more than likely used by Charles Hennessy a former County Sheriff and Toledo police captain. The positive is the provenance, the history that is part of this 2nd Model far outweighs the negative. How many guns do you have that you would like to know where they have been?Does it shoot? You bet it does if you do your part. Should this caliber, this model talk to you then reach out. Can answer you questions to the best of my ability.
Before going to auction my preference would be to that someone on the Forum purchase this 2nd M 44 Special. Therefore the price is reduced to $1350.
Bought this from a former member who by the way gets all the credit for the research and provenance that you will be seeing here and all will be included in the package. A former owner, not the Forum member mentioned above, very lightly etched initials and a date in a couple of spots. Original blueing still looks good on this 1927 second model 44 special. Has the original stocks, a 5” barrel, groove trigger and square fixed sight. Have had this to the range and it shoots very well as one would anticipate from a prewar 44.
It was originally shipped to the Toledo Rifle and Pistol club in Ohio with the 5 inch barrel and groove trigger. Documents show it was returned to the factory in July 1928 for a refurbishment.
The research shows that much of the history for this second model is related to the time it spent with Lieutenant Charles Hennessy of the Toledo Police Department and later of the Lucas county sheriffs department.
$1475.00 shipped and insured FFL to FFL.
