WW One Museum

Visited the WW One museum in Kansas City this weekend. Highly recommended - great museum. Lots of firearms on display as well as tons - literally - of artillery pieces. How about an early tank that had to be hand cranked to start?

Oddly, they didn't display a Smith model 1917.

Then to Q39 for some excellent bbq. Yum.

I've been there three times. I tend to read everything, and am not a speed reader, so it takes time to absorb it all. I get tired before I get through it. Last fall we took the grand kids. One is in the Army, so it was new to him and his sister. We had a great Mexican meal afterwards.

My maternal grandfather was a World War I vet. Where is this museum? Thanks to him I was able to join the Sons of the American Legion and VFW Auxiliary.

Near downtown Kansas City and Union Station.

grab a cup of coffee at the Roasterie to start the day, head yo the museum and follow that with BBQ.. a pretty great day.. the museum is great...

Too far away for me to visit at the moment but I'll bet it does not mention that the USN was rescuing White Russians in the Black Sea in 1923. Simply an extension of WWI. Does it also mention the French, British and US Army troops in the North West of Russia after the formal end of WWI (11/11/1918). Unfortunately the full histories of WWI are sadly lacking particularly in the US. Dave_n

You made a great choice on the museum and BBQ. Took my teenage sons, both interested in history, to the museum about a year ago. If you are still in the area and want the best Thai food ever. Check out Lulu's Thai Noodles in the Crossroad's. Not far away.

Truman's Library in Independence is great too.
