I was brushing up on some history and I stumbled upon it for the first time today.

Well as a young kid I worked in a old fashion Mom and Pop Pharmacy, drug store

There were contraceptives/prophylactics name Dough Boy. They were rationed out to soldiers.

Youll have to look the rest up;)

Didn't know that it went all the way back to the Mexican War.
I find it interesting that 'carried through ' all the way to WWI.
Usually these nicknames are only used for one War, then they tend to fade.

From John and Jane Dough.

I'll let myself out.

I can't remember who I heard it from but one of my g uncles served in WWI, it could have been either him or my grandfather but there was a gripe concerning the donuts, from what I can remember it had to do with the guys having to pay for them from the red cross. If I'm wrong please correct me...

I thought I knew it.....

For far more information about that term than you will probably want to read, see
Doughboy - Wikipedia

I thought that I'd heard a reason for the 'Doughboy' many years but after reading the wiki article I must be wrong because I know I've never heard that in my life.:confused::confused:

A French song was 'borrowed' to make a ditty called 'Hinky Dinky Parlez Vous'

The doughboy he went over the top, Parlez Vous
The doughboy he went over the top, Parlez Vous
The doughbody he went over the top because he had no place to stop
Singing Hinky Dinky Parlez Vous

You might be wrong about the word but not the Red Cross. My dad (WWII Navy vet) hated them (for the rest of his life) because they charged for everything. Joe
