Springfield Armory has issued a voluntary safety recall for their .45 ACP and 9mm XD-S pistols.

Issued Aug. 28, 2013, the recall identified the following issue:

“Springfield has determined that under exceptionally rare circumstances, some 3.3 XD-S 9mm and .45ACP caliber pistols could experience an unintended discharge during the loading process when the slide is released, or could experience a double-fire when the trigger is pulled once. The chance of these conditions existing is exceptionally rare, but if they happen, serious injury or death could occur.”

It's not just us.....

I believe the Shield trigger is very isolated. I am just not hearing a lot of chatter on the internet.

The XDs issue sounds like a much bigger deal. I would be surprised if they can claim a 7 day turn around like S&W is claiming with the trigger recall.

It appears that Springfield is are replacing the squeeze safety with a safety with roll pin through it to alleviate the issue. My local Sportsman's Warehouse has a pic of before and after. I sent mine off today so I will have a time frame to share.

Over on XDTALK, it's been reported that even though people have started sending their pistols (as of yesterday), SA won't actually start ripping into the recalled pistols until around the 20th.
and...
They're hiring & training new (temp?) employees just for this recall.
As anyone who's done their own trigger job could tell you, it won't be a difficult job at all, once they've done a few practice runs.

If not for the Liability issue, they might have simply been able to send replacement parts (with instruction sheets).
[oh those lawyers. ;)]
