I've been using Federal XM9001 (9mm 115gr. JHP) for quite some time in all my carry guns. It's fairly inexpensive for JHP, runs pretty clean, and I practice with it a lot, so I know it's very reliable in all my carry guns.

I was looking to restock some other ammunition the other day, and started looking around and saw that most places are out of stock or getting low.. Does anyone know if this is now out of production, or just in between production runs?

I understand that this ammunition was originally made for the Canadian military or police, and the excess is for sale in the US.

I'm hoping Federal is not done with this particular load and that they will fire up for another production run soon. Otherwise I'll need to test out something else. I think I'm going to stock up on another case and see if they make more. Hopefully they will.

You could also look for Federal's 9BP or 9BPLE rounds. The XM9001 is supposed to be somewhere between those two, with 9BP being standard pressure and 9BPLE being +P+. Those can usually be found relatively inexpensively in 50-round boxes.

It looks like you will need to buy in bulk and store it for carry while finding a similar round for practice. Good luck.

The XM9001 has been a favorite of mine for several years, and I've used quite a bit. I noticed it seemed to be less and less available a few months ago, and the last I ordered appeared to have been around for a while, stained brass and bullets, etc. I telephoned Federal's customer service and inquired about it. CS person said that it's not discontinued, but less of it will be available on the commercial market. He did not elaborate. I've read about it being intended for a Canadian LE contract, is surplus, and also that it is 10-15 years old. So if it was surplus/out of production, but CS says it isn't discontinued, it's hard to know what it's actual status is.

The XM9001, 9BP and 9BPLE 115 JHPs are as reliable and accurate as any factory ammo I can recall using. Lately, I could only find it in 1K round quantities, but did not want another 1000 rounds just now, so I ordered some 9BP and 9BPLE instead.

FWIW, chronographed velocities of the XM9001 do fall between the 9BP and 9BPLE. I've chronographed all three loads in a variety of 9MM firearms over the last few years.

For example: In a 3.9" semi-auto 9BP=1095 FPS, XM9001=1152 FPS, 9BPLE=1253 FPS.

In a 5" semi-auto: 9BP=1172 FPS, XM9001= 1254 FPS, 9BPLE=1336 FPS.

In a 16" carbine: 9BP=1305 FPS, XM9001=1471 FPS, 9BPLE=1587 FPS. Anyway, I too hope it is not discontinued, but as far as commercial sales it appears that it may be....

OK, so I went ahead and bit the bullet, so to speak, and ordered a case of XM9001 from Lucky Gunner. I'm going to have quite a bit on hand, as I normally wouldn't have restocked at this point. But, as mentioned earlier, it does give me time to test for a replacement.
It's funny you mentioned 9BP, I had already ordered a few boxes just to try it out, looks like that might be my new carry ammo.
