Yes and yes, although you will probably want an optical sight.

The only thing to be aware of is the bullet really start to fall like rock once you start getting past 75 yards. I have one of my rifles zeroed at 50 yards and when I go out to 100, there's almost a 7inch drop. (depending on ammo)

Sure.

The 15-22 or any .22lr will shoot as far as the aiming device will allow. Usually not much more than 200yds before most scopes run out of adjustment and reticle holdover. With the right optic and angled mount much further distances can be reached.

With a 40MOA base, over 100MOA of scope adjustment (about 75moa adjustment up after zero at 60yds) and using the mildot reticle for holdover, my Savage can shoot out to 400yds with standard velocity ammo. I regularly shoot suppressed 300yds at a 12in steel plate. The "ding" is great feedback. My 15-22 could too. Of course most folks don't buy a 15-22 with distance in mind.

All just recreational shooting. Effective range for critters is another story.

I shoot at my duelling tree @ 50yds with rds.
Anything more than that is needing an optic.
Anything over 100yds, I switch to my savage btvs.

I have an old box of 22's that says "warning range 1 mile"

How good of a shot are you? I can't see stuff a mile away so my hitting it is out. With a decent scope on my Ruger 10/22, I can hit a squirrel, most of the time, at 50 yards...on a good day....maybe.
The effective range is really based on how good a marksman you are , I'm no Alvin York, so I try to get within rock throwing range for a sure shot.

Yes, although the drop is CONSIDERABLE. My 15-22 is zeroed for 50 yards. At 100 the bullet is dropping about a foot. At 200 I have to hold almost 3 feet high. This with a 1X Bushnell red dot on the old military E silhouette target.

This is really pretty simple. With the usual 2.6" above bore center sights and the usual hi-velocity ammo you sight in for a 50 ft "zero" and are 2.5" high at 50 yds, 1" high at 100 yds, 10" low at 150 yds and 31" low at 200 yds.

Imo it takes a really well built semi auto to even come close to what a bolt action 22lr can do at 100+ yds.
Kidd and volquartsen come to mind.
Match chambers and good crowns.
Having a bedded receiver is helpful but with our guns its not an option.
A trigger upgrade and recrowned barrel is the way to go. Also check your barrel nut.

Good call, if you're going to shoot rested off a bench a couple of the short 10 rd mags are nice to have.

Took it out to 50 with my red dot. Problem is that my eyes SUCK. I knew I needed to get into an eye doctor but didn't know it was this bad. I'd like to get out to 100.

Back on topic...I'm thinking about switching my current scope and AD mount I have on my AR to my 15-22 and getting a higher magnification scope and AD mount for the AR. I have a Leupold Mark AR FireDot with American Defense mount.

As far as ammo goes I have several thousand rounds of Blazer. Good enough or ??

CCI AR Tactical .22LR boasts over 1,000 fps at 50 yards, 960 fps at 100 yards.

You want to reach out and touch something with an itty bitty 22 LR bullet? Here is a cheap solution. Buy a Simmons 6.5 x 20 X 50 MM Mil Dot rifle scope on sale at Midway USA for about $125 + shipping. The Simmons at 6.5 magnification is perfect for squirrel or can shooting out to 50 yards. Crank the magnification up to 20X and you see bullet holes at 100 yards or bullet impacts at 150 if the sun is right. This is a great scope for a heavy barrel 223 or any 22 LR rifle. I've got 3 of these scopes and am very satisfied.

FOR 22 LR use the cross hairs at 25 yard zero, one dot down is 50 yd zero, 2 dots down is 75 yd zero, 4 dots down is 100 yard zero. But I don't remember what the magnification setting was but it worked flawlessly on prairie dogs.
