Yep, another serial number search

I recently acquired a Model 28 6" in real nice condition. Using all my on line resources and my 4th addition Standard catalog of Smith & Wesson, I could could not come up wth a definite answer to when the gun was mfg. /shipped. Serial number is N507850. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

I was considering lettering the pistol, but since it is not one of the more preferred models ,if it would be worth doing.

N500000 series started in 1978. N557xxx was shipped in April,1980 so yours is likely a couple of years older.
