Is the BRatliff that won this auction the BRatliff that posts here?

If these are the going prices today, it looks like it will be a long time before my 686 collection sees a 2-1/2" barrel model! But - congrats on a winning bid!

Is that a Lew Horton model?

The grips are $200 or $250 easily, and the gun comes with the original box in a desirable configuration. $1050 + overnight shipping costs is crazy, but at the same time justifiable.

Pricy for a 686 no matter what comes with it but auctions are a funny thing. I'd pay that for a 624 or 629 with combats though... :D

Pricy, yes, but it appears to be a complete package including both boxes, and combat grips. It's sad to see but prices for so many of these revolvers have been rising at an alarming rate in the last three years. Please don't ask me about the very clean 3 1/2" M-27 I passed on at $600.00 3 years ago.

Wow I had no idea these had become that desireable,I have one about like that in My safe that I purchased new in the late 80's or early 90's I plan on keeping it.

I have 2 of them, a 6" that was my first firearm purchase ever back in the late 80s, & a 4" I just bought from an ad on GA. I would love to add a 2-1/2" & maybe even the 8" pre-locks to "complete the set", but if they start going for something north of $1k I'll have to look at collecting something else!

Dumb question- how do ya'll figure out the username of the bidders? Mine only gives me the first and last letter along with their feedback score.

Not a dumb question. On Gunbroker it only shows you the first and last letters of the bidders unless you log on. Then you get the full user name.

That is strange. When I first checked I looked at one on my watch list. I thought that could be why I could see the full user name. So I just checked one that had bids but I wasn't watching. Saw the full names. Quite simply, I don't have a clue.

I'm logged in - the names are complete.

I have a 2.5" M686+ that I bought some years ago. I know it's worth more today than the $350 I paid for it but three times that? Amazing. It has those same grips, too. No box.

But after what I saw at a recent Dallas area gun show, it's not all that surprising, now that I think about it.

Not sure why it matters or if it matters regarding the sale price, but it is a Lew Horton special order. A total of 250 were manufactured with 2.5 inch barrels for Lew Horton in 1984 under product code 104212.

After posting the above I went away for awhile and thought about this auction. IF an early 2.5 inch 686, pre lock with combats, matching box, papers and tools in new or LNIB condition is on your grail list, then you better go for it. This gun is 30 years old and only 250 were made. How many more opportunities will you have to get this gun in this condition? If you are a collector and this is what you want, then this one is certainly one to go for! If you are not a collector then it's too high as you can get comparable shooters in this configuaration for much less. I think b****f knew what he was doing.

I've sort of depleted a chunk of my gun-buying money this year already, although I am replenishing it by selling some guns off. I'll be looking for a 2-1/2" in the not-too-distant future; I just hope the prices keep floating around that $700 range I've been seeing (a couple -3s just sold on AA for less than $700 each). I need a M645 semi-auto too, and then there are the M29s.....:(

I need a raise....

Keep the faith, last May, IIRC I found a three month old {spent cartridge was Nov.} 2.5 686+ for $550.00 at a lgs. I thought perhaps the craziness of Newtown had blown over. There are deals like that once in awhile.
