Something that has caught my eye recently, that I can't remember ever noticing before when examining a Smith has me a little puzzled. I have looked at two N frames recently, one is a private party and the other is at a LGS that I am interested in buying...

When looking at the left side of the revolver near the top of the yoke where the extractor rod passes through, with the cylinder closed, the yoke to frame gap gets bigger from front to back (Left to Right). Functionally, the cylinder maybe feels slightly harder to open then normal on both but hard to say. Is this the tell tale mark of a bent yoke or just bad fitting based on my kinda vague description :D

Thanks!

Edit: Attached a crude photo representing the gap I am describing.

Yoke to frame fittings are all over the map, unlike sideplate fitting, which is usually pretty good. You would have to do other tests to see if the frame or yoke is bent, or out of alignment.

There has to be some clearance for the yoke to not bind. Some have more than others, and stainless guns are more obvious than blued guns.

Yes..yoke fitting varies. The older guns seem to be generally better owing to more hand fitting.

Some fitting is so good that it rivals the door/ramp gaps on Klaatu's flying saucer space ship. Others not so good.
