Such is with everything in life... but I have been particularly surprised with electronics over the years.

It was only about 10 years ago that I was convinced the picture on my Sony flat screen tube TV was so good there was no reason to get a flat panel 1080. But... soon after I got a new Sony flat panel I couldn't believe I had tortured myself watching that horrible tube picture all those years. Enter the new 4K today...

My latest surprise is the difference between a 1080 TV and our new 4K. I've been quite satisfied with our current Sony and was convinced there was no reason to get a 4K. Last week the wife decided we 'needed' a new TV (first world problems ya know ). So... she picked out a new Sony XBR49X900E. The difference in picture quality from our Sony 1080 is significant. Not quite the leap from tube to 1080, but significant. And the wife was delighted when I told her that the new Sony was designed to work with Alexa so she doesn't even need to pick up the remote control... Alexa TV on. Happy wife... happy home :).

Now I'm wondering how much bandwidth we'll be using watching Netflix 4k...

Phil—I think we live in an era that our society has yet to fully grasp with the technology. I think these times are no different than the industrial revolution when we first had mass produced steel, cars, equipment, power etc. And these technology people are the new Ford’s, Carnegie’s, Rockafeller’s, etc.

I read this recently and it is truly mind blowing—“A 16 GB iPhone 5 has about 240,000 times the memory of the Voyager spacecraft.” Voyager is basically being run with an entry level iPod.

I'm sort of in the same boat you were in. I still think the picture on my 1080 is awesome and haven't yet seen the "need" to upgrade to the new 4K.

There has to be a limit for each individual's eyesight to where making the upgrade just wouldn't be all that noticeable, right?

The 8 k televisions includes VR Technology, but we will need to wait for Television shows to catch up. They are cellphones that take pictures in 8k. I think that it might include the LG G5 or later model. We know the Gaming systems will be their now or shortly.

4K is what lead me to subscribe to the Netflix offerings. We've had ours for a year or so now, (a lightning strike relieved us of our previous 1080) and have been quite impressed.

That's was my general assumption since I also have aging eyes, but have found that the better the image display the better I see it.

I've still got my old DELL 19in ultra sharp computer monitor. Nothing better at the time... stunning display. That was probably 15 ago and my eyes were better then. Today I can barely stand looking at the dull dim pixelated mess compared to my iMac.

I have a 50" Samsung plasma flat screen which is approaching 8 years old. I have no idea how a picture from any brand-new set could be better than it has. No plans to upgrade until that one quits on me. I wonder why plasma sets disappeared? At Sam's Club, I have seen something a little different, the 4K Samsung Frame (55"). It is very thin and light, you can hang it up like a picture. But too expensive to interest me right now.
