Trail Boss pistol powder
Loadind .32H&R mag with 85gr lead & 98gr HBWC
Currently using Vitha=vouri N310 which is fast burning and very clean
burning.
How does Trail Boss compare.

Trail Boss is bulky, and the .32 Mag case stuffed full is still going to be mild. Trail Boss is intended for SASS loads in big old cartridges like .45 Colt.

While I agree it is very bulky and intended for light loads, I believe it is actually a fairly fast burning propellant. Something close to Bullseye/231 in rate.

I started using Trailboss when it was first introduced. I wish I could cite the source but I believe it was suggested to use Bullseye max/min data for load development for unlisted cartridges.

Took a quick look at the Alliant charts. For the same cartridge/bullet combination the Trailboss charge weight data often tracks somewhere between Bullseye and Unique.

For what it's worth the main benefit I've found using Trailboss is the case filling volume that eliminates any chance of squibs or overcharged cases and seems to reduce leading dramatically in many of my guns/bullet combinations. Don't know for certain why but I think it burns cooler.

Be extra carefull with Trail Boss as I had it "bridge" in my RCBS uniflow powder measure and overcharge the next caseing in line. Normally with Trail Boss this alone is not too bad but if it winds up being a compressed load that crumbles the powder flakes in a small case like the 38 special it can lead to very high pressures.
