I have a Model 29-2 N358XXX 4-inch barrel in blue. This is a 3-screw with recessed cylinder and pinned barrel. Per the attached pictures, it has the original presentation case (including insert) and cleaning tools. Original price tag (in box) WAS $450. I'd estimate the finish as 95 to 98%. It has a minor ding on the right side at the muzzle and a couple of small dents on the grips. I know for a fact this is (was) a one-owner pistol with very little use. I am in the Phoenix AZ area and could use help with the following:

(1) Opinions of value.
(2) Recommendations for an appraiser in the Phoenix area.
(3) The best way to sell for a fair price.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Welcome to the forum.

I believe you could sell that rig for about $900-950 here on the forum classifieds if it is not refinished. The case is missing the top liner but that can be replaced.

That would net you a lot more than selling to a dealer. I don't know why you would pay an appraiser when you can look at old ads here or go to the auction sites and see the sold prices for the exact model...

Best Wishes & Good Luck.

Agree with Weatherby... Double that price tag. A few years ago my pricing scheme on N-frames was $600-800 to start. A nice shooter was worth $600 and a 95%+ gun was around $800... And increase from there if it had presentation case and desirable features like 3" barrels etc... With price appreciation over the past couple years, that is my starting point on pricing N frames. I think you have around a $1k gun with where 29s are being priced. I'm no 29 collector or buyer but IMO a 29-2 or earlier is more desirable and a 4" helps a little more. If it were nickel I'd add a little more, etc. Depends on how and where you sell the gun, because shipping and transfer fees can quickly swing the price up to $100.

That is a very desirable package! Four inch N-Frames, especially .44 Magnums, are in demand right now. I am guessing it would sell quickly for $1,000.

I second the motion of listing it in the classifieds here.

Everyone seems to agree that $900-$1000 is a decent value. Sometimes Gunbroker can be helpful establishing a ballpark. Don't worry, you will have NO PROBLEM selling it.

Re: Value on Model 29-2

Thanks to all for your input--it was very helpful. This was my father-in-law's pistol. He was a master guide in Alaska for 40 years. His working piece was a pre-'64 Model 70 in .338 Win Mag. Not the 29-2!

Per usm1rifle's post, any suggestions where I might lay hands on a top liner for the case?

Anyway, thanks again. I think posting it in the classifieds here is a great idea.
