I am adding a second Korth (imported by Nighthawk) to the revolver stable, want to place the order Friday. Which 357 do you prefer?

While I will not use the accessory rails, the extra 10oz. is nice re recoil and I already have a 357 3 inch mongoose by Korth. I will also have to choose between a 4 inch and a 6 inch barrel.

Particularly interested if you like the smooth barrel, or the railed up vented one.

Some will comment their preference for the looks of the S&W’s. Regardless, the absolutely consistent action, fit, and choices of billet steel by Korth make the experience well beyond my three remaining S&W’s even though each has been to TK Custom for action jobs and represent the best S&W has to offer.

Korth L to R

NXS .357 4” (8 shot)
NXS. 357 6” (8 shot)
Mongoose .357 4” (6 shot)
Mongoose .357 6” (6 shot)
My 3 S&W’s

My current choice is the 4” NXR. While it doesn’t have the clean looks of the Mongoose, it has an 8-shot option not available on the Mongoose.

I would go with the 6". If it had an 8 shot version that would be even better. I don't care for those side barrel slots much.

After looking at the slotted/vented bbls, the smooth one looks a little boring; but wow, is it busy.

I guess at that price point, I’d want bling. As for 4 or 6”…purely a practical decision. Open sights/ red dot for outdoor carry, 4”; scope, target, hunting rig:6”

I’ve been carrying a Korth since 2016, and the action and build on the Mongoose make it worth it. The NXS Korths are admittedly over the top, but the only way to get the 8-Shot.

Very deluxe hardware. Since you inquired re esthetics, the NSX largely seems an answer to a question but rarely posed.

My taste certainly runs to the simpler mongoose style without the (to me) decidedly curious angled slots and other tactical attributes. Seemingly, high price in this case did not lead to high art, or even high utility. (Except for the eight shot cylinder, which, if they have a particularly responsive custom shop, might be able to be retrofitted to a mongoose.)

Hope your decision will result in your soon sharing a range report!

Aesthetically, Korth has nothing over a mid-70's S&W revolver, IMO. In classic German style, they are very precisely formed and lack the "art" that makes a S&W so beautiful. I've handled, but never owned or fired a Korth, so I can't speak to the durability or performance, but for what they cost, you should be able to run over them with a tank or drag them behind your car on asphalt and expect them to operate perfectly afterwards. I'd buy one if it looked as good as a M27.

My pick would be the basic 4-inch (3rd picture from left).

I know exactly what I want. Problem is I can only have one at a time.

I buy a gun about every four years. Nothing wrong with enjoying the process amongst the opinions of other enthusiasts. Ever in your life ask what someone else prefers?

I'd prefer the one whose caliber starts with a 4.

Agreed! And when I lived in Alaska, that was a decent carry caliber. I carried a 460 in Alaska, but loaded with 454 Heavy. Now down in Alabama, 357 is arguably everything you need.
