OK, so I have to admit I am a nerd at heart and love theme things....I tend to go overboard on everything so lets get that out of the way now. I had an 81 Delorean and added Back to the Future parts....I turned my game room into a wargaming haven.

At the gunshow this weekend I saw the EOTech Zombie Scope and some ridiculously cool zombie rifles. I want to do that. My first thought was to build an AR-15 from the bottom up so I could utilize the Umbrella Corp lower for better effect, but I cant buy one. Then I figured I probably wouldnt shoot it too much anyway due to the cost of ammo (I am trying to talk myself out of it). So I am going to do up my 15-22. Here is a list of parts I need to grab; I think it is pretty complete but can you tell me if I am missing anything?

EOTech Zombie Stopper
Zombie Magpul XT Rail Covers
Zombie Magpul Pistol Grip
Charging Handle & Latch from NDZ
Magazine Catch
Stock Lever Zombie

I will most likely get it hydrodipped including my mags but I am on the fence about that and which parts I would do. I think there are some takedown pins but I havent located them yet.

Please, if you dont like what I am doing that is OK but keep the comments to yourself.

I didn't go all out like what plans you have but here is my Zombie gun.

I got a Z.E.D.U. lower from Mega

Mine is 5.56. It's a JP rifle upper that shoots like a tack driver. :D

Thats a nice flash hider and will fit your build well.

TBH I am scared to try a 5.56 just yet. I know nothing of building a rifle...but the parts I buy will be interchangeable.

I personally think the whole Zombie thing is a little done. Way to take and idea and kill it with mainstream overkill.

That being said I do like the Eotech zombie reticule. I would be all over it if it was any other brand besides Eotech. I've used a couple of models and they have all died various deaths from perma death to just flat batteries.

My Aimpoint H1 is on the same set of batteries 3 1/2 years later......

I honestly put Eotech on the same plane as NC Star. I have an NC Star "scope" that's lasted longer than any Eotech I've used, but they cost what, 1/8 the price of the Eotech. (this isn't saying the NC star is a better scope, just that in my experience Eotech don't live up to their cost)

After all these years I've learned that you can't have too much fun. Now granted, I don't watch zombie movies, or understand the entire movie/story genre at all. But the guys that criticize anyone else's hobby usually have far too many video games and stacks of porn in their mom's basement.

Hey, I bought a box of Hornady's zombie cartridges for fun. They are the same price, the box was a hoot, and telling a potential mugger you'll be using catridges for the undead might make him cry.

Besides, a slime green AR-15 is as dangerous as a black one, so what's the harm?

There is that, but it is also WAY over done. Zombie guns, zombie lasers, zombie sights, zombie ammo, zombie chainsaw bayonetts zombie targets... zombie overload.

I'll admit I've seen some cool zombie stuff as well, but it was always rather tongue in cheek, actually using it to sell stuff is almost as absurd as people buying it.

( I still do like the Eotech Zombie sight)

Not a fan of the zombie theme but everyone has different tastes. I think the 15-22 is a awesome platform to customize. I love seeing how people make it their own. I look forward to seeing everyone's zombie 15-22.

It's not the only thing overdone. So are vampires, werewolves, fairies, romance novels, first person shooter video games, rap music, etc. None of the stuff is orignal, seldom is it good, and usually it's cranked out for a gullible bumba market.

Heck, if you could create a strong female character, that's a archer, is a zombie by day and vampire by night and sings urban ghetto music, you'd be a millionaire overnight.

BTW, there has never been a credible biker movie.

That doesn't mean we can't have fun, and laugh at ourselves. I sell knives for a living, and a few months back I saw a complete set of zombie survival knives in a ballistic nylon case. Slime green handles, the whole works.

I could have attacked the project as denigrating my livelihood. But let's face it, it was done in humor. Life is too short.

I live the humor of the EOTech reticle, but if you're after a magnified optic, an ACOG is the way to go. If you have an M4 barrel, look at the TA31RCOM4 which is a BAC with a red chevron reticle. Bought one a while back and it's awesome.

For the lower, get in touch Wally at York Arms for a custom engraved lower, if that's what you're after. He can make one up with the 'biohazard' symbol.

Thanks to everyone who has provided good info.

To the ones that talked about how the zombie thing is all played out, I specifically asked for you all not to go there and you did anyway. This is my weapon and my choice. There is nothing around my area that I have seen and if I choose to equip my rifle a certain way then I will do it. I am not interested in opinions about what is and what isn't played out.

So to all of those with constructive information thank you again.

Alex:

Any time you post on a public forum, you are just begging for comments, whether you like them or not. :)

I think the whole zombie thing (ESPECIALLY Hornady's ammo) is dumb, but then, so what. If it makes you happy, go for it and enjoy.

Hey, I get the Delorian, I get the Warhammer games room. I even get some of the Zombie stuff. It is just a little played out now.

I didn't say it was a bad thing. I said Eotech's were bad and should be avoided.

If you want a zombie gun, go for it. Just buyer beware, Eotech's don't have the best battery life, or the best life in general.

I personally want an NDZ detailed Thundercats gun.

I'm not really into customizing my weapons like zombies, but always find it cool when I see something at the range. Last one I saw was a cute chick shooting a black 1911 with Zombie Houge grips. Love walking dead and zombie movies, just not into doing that to my weapons. I think your on the right track though. If your going to build a zombie rifle make it a $1,000 15-22 zombie rifle instead of a $2,000 - $3,000 AR 15 zombie rifle. Besides if you listen to Max Brooks a 22 is what you would want for the zombie apocalypse.

if zombies get more people into guns then im all for it. not my thing but who am i to judge? i like od green guns. :p
