What's with all the Zombie references lately?
Do we have a generation of video game players on the forum now?

Hey Mickey we got to have some reason to give to our wives to justify the recent arms purchases!

Actually I had the wife watch the Death Wish marathon almost a year ago. During #3, third night, she said there were two things she was sure of: one, she wasn't going to live in any large cities and two, we needed more guns.

Zombies may get me a Barrett

, that is if I had someone donate a large sum of money.

Other forums talk about SHTF guns, EBRs, Krags, 03 Springfields and such; what you rely upon when all else has failed.
On this forum, we know that the real threat to come is from Zombies. This is the forum where there are valuable discussions as to tactics; rate of fire versus volume of fire; slow, heavy projectiles versus fast, light-weight projectiles.
Why waste your time on other fora engaging in discussions about unlikely invasions by groups from Albanians to Zulus when you can get the genuine information right here?

It's sort of a catch-all way to laugh off more pointed questions about preparedness/survivalism. "Why do you need three cases of 9mm?" "Oh, it's for when the zombies come."

"Oh, it's for when the zombies come."
Oh dear.

Those words will NEVER come out of my mouth. Talk about having the anti-gunners think you're not fit to own a weapon. They already swear we're nuts to begin with. I'm not giving them anymore ammunition to use against us.

I have the deanimator game saved in my favorites. It's been there since someone posted it a while back...very addicting.

Many of the people posting about zombies would love to take a hoard of them on--loaded to the teeth. In the last 10 years there have been a lot of zombie movies and video games.

I was a history major in college, with a focus in art history (super hireable, I know). the way our enemies are depicted are almost always a reflection of the current state or the collective psyche. for example, in the middle ages, evil was usually depicted as demon hordes. ideas of individuality were not yet commonplace. as we move to the renaissance, evil begins to take a more individual style. devils and demons are distinguishable from one another (often taking on the likeness of a less than popular politician or leader). This cycle goes on through the ages as the collective vs. the individual comes in and out of style. I was able to fill 65 pages on this just comparing two works of art 100 years apart.

So, now that I got that out of the way, I would say the current uptick in zombie love (from the movies to video games to general talk) is a reflection of our worry that the enemy is actually ourselves (we are damned by a higher power, turned undead by a government virus, etc). we are to blame for everything that has happened (collectively), and at the same time are looking for the individual hero to come a long and save the day.

Just some quick thoughts between the boss man glancing at my screen.

Obviously, you have to gauge your audience before you whip out a line like that.

Otherwise it's "economies of scale", and "a good day at the range is a half-case", or "don't you buy TP by the case? This doesn't go bad either."
