Default No Not Stirring The Pot, no rant either, only an observation.

Went into Wally World this week for Tomato Plants, couldn't pay what they were asking for them so I ventured by the Ammunition Shelves. Had been a couple months since my last visit and low and behold there wasn't any.22 AMMUNITION of any brand or description. So here in small town N.C. .22 ammunition continues to be non existent on these shelves anyway. Causing continuation of the process of going by every day just to learn if there has been any made available for sale. Its become a competition for available bullets rather than a shopping opportunity. Those of you who have been finding some along the way are just more fortunate.

normally its been hit and miss around here, though a new Cabelas opened up recently and they have had it on the shelf each time I've been in there (most times i just walk on by). And seems about the same time they opened, the local Gander has been having some .22 stock as well. Could be a coincidence but i'll add that as a consumer, i like having the "competition" as maybe it will mean a little better selection and pricing for us here anyway.
Before that, i had better luck stumbling upon some online over trying to find some in a local store (including WM)

This link might help you find some .22's, and save you a wasted trip or two. I have found it pretty accurate.

No. We just had the foresight to stock up and keep up a good stockpile for the inevitable shortages that crop up from time to time.

I have a stockpile of around 15K CCI Minimags and my LGS gets a few cases in on a regular basis. He always holds a few boxes aside for me, but I don't shoot 22LR much anyway, so it's a slow accumulation of total 22LR rounds.

I'm going to ask the obvious question here. If you dont shoot it why buy it?

Not to be a smartass, but because I can and if I need to, I can either sell them for a profit in a future shortage (Hillary 2016) or use them as barter in a SHTF scenario.

Plus, I cast I own bullets and can handload centerfire handgun ammo for near what 22LR is selling for today.

One of these days the people buying tons of 22LR for investment are going to find that there is a glut of 22LR ammo filling spare bedrooms and garages.

The the price will plummet and that investment won't look so good.

By now there must be a few decades of normal demand out there waiting for society to collapse.

But, what happens if it doesn't collapse?

Since the beginning of the year, most of our local shops have had plenty of 22LR on the shelves. The prices fluctuate a bit, but there is usually some at acceptable rates. The local big box stores (Walmart, Dick's, etc…) have literally had none.

Ahhhh..... But see, I didn't buy the vast majority during the panic, I bought it years ago, when 22LR was "cheap".

Very little in my area except the Aquila. On a recent (mid April) road trip, I found a lot at some smaller stores, but grossly overpriced.

Last week for the first time in months (8-12) the local WalMart had .22lr...... looked like about 2000-2500 rounds of CCI.....limit 3 (100rd boxes) $7.49/100

Still had about 1000 the next day..... "Honey-doo" trip so I grabbed 3 more........

Same week LGS had 300 round packs (6/50s) of CCI for $28 ($9.33/100)....... grabbed one..... owner said..........."Take 2 if you want!"

Only .22lr I've..... seen locally since last summer

This week ........ nothing!?!?

I've got 7-10 thousand rounds that I bought years ago when I was going through a rimfire stage. I'm keeping it for my grandkids and other newbies to the sport. Anybody that's ever taken a grandchild to the range knows how fast 100 rds. can disappear.

I sell it to close friends for whatever the current Walmart price is when they need it and can't find it. That's plenty of profit for me and they appreciate it. I saved a Hunter's Safety Class a couple of years ago when they needed ammo and couldn't beg, borrow, or steal enough to run the course. I didn't make a dime off them.

Funny thing about rimfire prices is the top end stuff hasn't gone up much in price. Eley Black Box Match has only gone up about 25% in the past seven years. Junk ammo has more than doubled. Guess that says enough about who's making the money and it's not the manufacturers.

You're not stirring the pot with me, but rather "preaching to the choir!"

Its very hard to find .22's at my local WM. The girl that works at the ammo counter tells me that several older "gentlemen" are waiting every morning at 0700 to snatch up whatever comes in. Really makes me irritated! No chance here for a working man!!

I've been in line to open the doors at 2 different Academy stores on their "ammo days" pretty regularly for 2 1/2 years. It seems like there is less high quality 22LR and 22 WRM available recently than there was in 2013.

Im currently working outside of Calgary Alberta and have been in a Bass Pro and another large sporting goods store that sells guns and ammo. The shortage of .22 and reloading components has crossed the border. The Canadian authorities must be buying .22lr in large lots, to resell to our Gov't, at a markup, under NAFTA......

Or there is a bunch of fellas up here sinking boats, or watching the attic rafters sag 3", or.......

No relief to the shortage here in S. FL. If I had 15,000 rounds of .22s, I'd have a lifetime supply to live all over again. Hoarders . . .

Made my range trip check (I stop at all the WM and Academy stores on the route). Aquila and weird target rounds at high prices, nothing standard or affordable except some Thunderbolt 50's, but I don't need / want any more of that. My LEO shop had AE, but that won't run through my semi-autos. I did win a 5.11 door prize - t-shirt that might fit my arm, and a bag.

I sold a couple of bulk winchester .22 boxes to my WM guy. There is never anything left when he goes off the clock, and he needed some for an unusual situation.

Not all the WM employees are thieves, although I I certain that some are.

Sold some Win M-22 to a lady whose son is on our local PD.

I buy what I can, test with my pistols, and what dosen't work, I recycle at what I paid for it when I'm certain it isn't going to a gun show.

Pity we can't mail this stuff. I won't be in FL again until March.
