Lately I have bought a lot of Magtech ammo in .38 Special and .357 magnum. I found the ammo to be accurate and only slightly more fouling than the major brands but clean up has not been a problem at all.

The best thing I have found is that the +P 158 grain SJHP loading is very accurate in every gun that I have shot it through. I liked it so much that I started carrying it in my 640-1. I have not done any controlled scientific testing for velocity, penetration or weight retention but anecdotally, it seems to perform very well.

I could not find any online gurus who tested this ammo and when I checked the Magtech site, I was disappointed to find that Magtech recommends their 95 grain solid copper hollow point ammo for defense.

I think most .38 special revolvers are regulated to be accurate with 158 grain bullets and this certainly seems to be the case with my guns. Since the Magtech ammo is affordable, available and reliable, I will probably stick with it. I am a fan of heavy-for-caliber bullets.

Please let me have some feedback from your experiences with Magtech ammo.

I buy Magtech from Sportsman Guide at a good price for 38 and 357. The 158 gr 357 is great in my 686 and gp100. It's a bit dirty but no worse than most. I like the 357 sjsp flat nose. It has some punch

A few years ago I bought four or five boxes of Magtech .38 special to use as practice rounds for my .357 magnums. As I recall, they worked well with no problems.

I have used magtech a bunch for recreational shooting in multiple calibers without issue. Its good stuff.

Yep. Hard to find anything but Magtech for .44 special... seems to shoot just fine so far, no problems at all.

Was it the ammo or was it the gun - Mag-Tech versus 686+

Caught my eye as I just received some 158 gr. LRN bulk packed at a decent price from sgammo. Looks serviceable, may be a while before I get a chance to try them as I've been hit with a case of life happens.

I have used Mag tech in 38 S&W, 44 spl and 45 Colt. The only complaint I ever had was with the 38 S&W about 5 ~ 10 years ago. Some of their primers were thin, or maybe soft, and showed slight piercing. GTG other than that.

Somewhere along the line , I recieved a couple of box's of Magtech 9mm 115 gr with a used gun purchase ( A M&P9c if memory serves). Since I reload my own ammo , I put it aside and never gave it much thought. So yesterday while packing to go to the range to try out/break in a new Walther PPS, I spotted the magtech and tossed it in the range bag.
As it turns out, it was the most accurate ammo of the day. ( Odd since I swear by 124-147 gr bullets in all my 9mms.) It also seemed to have less snap than Winchester White box 115.
It impressed me enough where I stopped on the way home, picked up another 2 box's and 500 115gr FMJ heads. Now I'm off to try to duplicate the Magtechs performance.

They make a great 148 grain wad cutter for my model 52. Very accurate and reliable.

Although somewhat limited, I've shot more magtech in 500 mag than anything else. IIRC, it was 400 gr. and fairly inexpensive (for 500 mag) with not many rds. left and no complaints so far.

It's been several years but I have seen and experienced hard primers as well OAL problems so I don't buy it any more. I can usually find Fiocchi or Sellier & Bellot for less.

I've shot Magtech in 38 Special, 40S&W, and 44 Mag. The 38 Special has been as good as anything although it is a little dirtier but for the price it's very good. The 40S&W was good but I prefer Blazer Brass or Speer Lawman. The 44 Mag was good too but a little weaker than some of the other brands I shoot. Accuracy with all of it has been as good as anything else and the brass has been fine for reloading. Magtech also makes a 38 Special Short which my wife really likes. Our LGS keeps a ton of it which he mostly sells to women. Accuracy is very good and recoil is extremely light. She shoots it in her Ruger LCR which calms it down quite a bit. In a heavyweight 38 Special it has almost no recoil. Still trying to find a good recipe to load it.

My only experience with Magtech ammo has been with 9mm 115 gr FMJ.
Like some other brands of cheap 9mm ammo sold these days I found
the Magtech ammo to be so lightly loaded that it would not cycle the
action of some of my pistols. Chronographed at around 1060 fps out
of my Browning HP. Their revolver ammo may be ok but I will never
buy another box of Magtech ammo for semi autos.
