The Fiocchi Reduced Recoil 00 Buck is a joy to shoot
And the heft of the solid steel receiver and dense wood in the stock absorbs a lot of recoil.
No bull. Stopped at 10 rounds with zero discomfort.

I own most popular and some not so common pumps, and the 31 is my favorite of all of them.

Very nice!!
That Fiocchi Reduced Recoil 00 is in my Mossberg 500 right now. It is very pleasant to shoot.
Best,
Charles

Never had a 31, but the Fiocchi ammo sounds impressive. Looking forward to trying it in my Humpback Stevens.
As an aside, this target illustrates nicely the gouge we got for shooting the Navy Shotgun Qualification Course. At 7 and 10 yards, aim low.

Regardless of it's steel frame, a smart person would use reduced recoil (and pressure?) loads in a gun that old. The OP is that smart person! May I suggest you try the Hornady TAP (Tactical Application Police) 12 gauge load: 8x00 buck at 1100fps, as per the box. From my Shockwave, ONE hole at 10 yards. No kidding. Good shooting bushmaster 1313!

I picked up a Light Weight Remington 31 at a gun show a couple of months ago. Finally got around to shooting it this past weekend during opening weekend of dove season.
With the aluminum receiver of the LW and the hard butt plate it wasn't a lot of fun with Federal 1-1/4 oz. of #7-1/2 at 1330 FPS. I predict a Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad in the near future.
BTW: My LW31 shoots GREAT.

I hope that Faulkner copies that target. The next time that idiot reporter asks if his .30 M-1 carbine can still kill people, he can show your shotgun target, from an even older arm.
Will that thing shoot birdshot well enough for hunting? With modern shot collars, it might suffice on birds or rabbits at average ranges, despite the (presumed) plain cylinder choke.
Jack O'Connor wrote to me that he'd shot a lot more pheasants under 30 yards than over. I'd asked how a M-1100 skeet gun might fare on pheasants.(That barrel wasn't threaded for Rem_Chokes.)
BTW, Don Zutz told me that he chose a M-31 over a Model 12 when he bought a pump gun. He was a really knowledgeable shotgun writer, and that impresed me.
