Need opinions on values please
I made a offer Saturday on four guns, and offended the owner. I was in a NC gun shop where a sign on the counter stated the store trade policy. “70% of wholesale price on VGC guns, providing there was a market for the item at that time”. Items up for trade were a Stevens 200 7mm/08 with a camo painted stock, a Mossberg 500 Youth 20 gauge pink camo in about 80%, a home-built AR on a polymer lower with the rest of the parts from various manufacturers and mixed furniture, and a finished challenged Ruger standard .22 with a 4 3/4” barrel. The clerk offered $400.00 for the two rifles, stated he could not move the shotgun or handgun for a profit. The trader was livid.
I offered $550.00 to the shop for all four guns to help the customer, if he was agreeable, stating it would cost me to ship and receive the handgun to GA. The clerk agreed, the trader was insulted and countered at $650.00 which I was unwilling to pay. I left with my money, the trader left with his trade fodder, and the clerk closed up for the day.
I believe my prices were spot-on, but would like opinions please.

Given the descriptions.. No offer would have been given by me.. No need to buy anything. But that's me..YMMV..

I see the description of the above guns like this:
Blah, blah, blah,......... CAMO PAINTED ..... blah, blah, .......... PINK CAMO .... blah, blah, ............ HOME-BUILT ... VARIOUS PARTS .... blah, blah, .......... FINISHED CHALLENGED blah,blah....
...... and I wonder how much they're going to pay me to take them off their hands?
Edit: To be clear you may have offered somewhere near $550 too much.

Though not an expensive rifle, the Stevens 200 series shot well. I have owned three in the last ten years.

Sounds to me like the items' owner did you a favor.

I may be wrong but I have always thought that it was in poor taste to make an offer in any shop. If you want to wait until the shop has completed their transaction and then followed the person outside, then make him or her an offer but not inside the shop. You did nothing wrong but I just don't want to get in the middle of an offer from a shop and make the shop mad.

Back in about 1975. I was in a shop when an old man brought in a beautiful model 97 riot gun from the 40's that was a police gun. The old man said he had the metal only redone at Winchester( back when they were a real company) in about 68. The shop owner gave the man 125.00. The man walked out the door, and I said to the owner I want that gun. Owner said 135.00, and it went out the door with me 15 minutes after it came in. Still have it. Point being, I waited till they made their deal

There was no deal, the clerk told the customer that. I offered the clerk the money and he made the offer to the customer as he was gathering up his stuff.
Don’t be so quick to turn away from a painted gun. I have purchased a Savage 340V 225 Win., LH Rem. 788 6mm Rem., a Rem. 7 .222 Rem. with sloppy paint jobs. None of them were expensive and cleaned up pretty nice.
That is a nice Winchester.

Not to sound like a snob, but I only have so much room in my safe. Sounds like a bunch of junk.
You can only shoot one gun at a time...make it a good one.
