Default have we changed?

Looking at some of our threads I have noticed many of us were fans of "long hair hippie" music and went to concerts where likely not everyone was exactly obeying all available laws. Now a few decades later we are pro second amendment gun owning mostly conservative types. Have we changed or has the world moved away from us?

Since your post is listed at 4:21 pm, I can't help but think you were typing at precisely 4:20. The world changed, we didn't.

Heh... I have always been a pro 2a conservative, and used to get a kick out of driving my old Jag to Grateful Dead concerts in DC, with a quite prominent NRA Sticker on the back window....

Look at what the Democrat Party stood for in the '60's, that's us.

Default I've always been a straight arrow....

Having been 15 in 1970, even when I grew my hair down to my collar and tried smoking dope I wasn't very far from my roots. I could possibly be classified as a conservative with some liberal leanings. I've never not believed in owning guns, even at my lowest point.

My investment in 4 track tapes never came to fruition. Even the more 'advanced' 8 tracks didn't pay off in spite of holding tight for 45 years. I think I threw the last box out a few months ago.

Just because I had long hair, and liked the fashions and music of the day didn't mean I lost my values. It's about freedom, man. Lettin" my freak flag fly!
Just because I wanted to go to Frisco, and experience the love-ins and the Fillmore, didn't make me a commie.

I had hair down to my rear and voted for Nixon, Ford and Reagan. I was brought up with guns and have always loved them.

Thinkin' 'bout it. I guess I kinda have.
Back in the day, life was one big party. I never had more than I could move in a few trips with my old station wagon and I moved whenever the mood struck me.
Women? I'd go though 3 or 4 a week, sometimes 2 at a time. A long term relationship was 2 weeks.
I wasn't into drugs but I've outdrunk groups of people then gave them a ride home.
Back packing, rock climbing, mountain biking, roller blading or going to the gym.
I was athletic, long haired, tattooed and dark skinned. I was told that I look "exotic". The women dug it and I took advantage of that.
My Dad used to call me his wild Indian.
This is from when I met the woman that was to become my wife.

I've always been into guns and I usta carry a .22 semiauto in my back pocket.

Now, I've been with the same woman for 16 years and lived in the same place for 15. Sometimes I think about that and it kinda blows my mind.
Never saw that coming.
Me married? Never!
I have an occasional beer and I still try to stay active.
Seems I'm all settled down and "civilized".
Latest picture.

I still like guns but I carry a 442 now.

I'm a younger dude, but even I know that at one time hell, I was pretty wild. Nowadays, I'm more tame. And more smarterer too.

With age comes wisdom (usually). We all get wiser and more conservative. As The Who said: "The parting on the left is now a parting on the right."

My tastes haven't changed much, I have quit a few bad habits but that was mostly due to having children.
That experience probably kept me from traveling some twisted paths.

... And when I was a child, I thought and acted like a child. But now I am a man...
The myopic view of the world, held by the children of those times, was that the world centered around the youth culture.
It did. Some would argue it still does.
In an unforseen twist of fate, we all grew into adulthood, learned how the real world works. It is that knowledge, that conservative principles are the bedrock of our Republic, and those which will best serve the "new youth".
Eventually.

Long hair was the style of the day and everyone knows young people have to be "stylish". Rock was the "in" music. I have not changed, just got older. Very lucky to grow up on a farm, raised around guns, and was taught the value of the great outdoors, the game in the "woods" and to appreciate my time spent there, it even effected my decision of a chose profession for the past 45 years. No, I have not changed and a lot of people in my communities have not changed. We all watch way to much TV, you think the world is changing, only because media is not showing the world I live within. These people we see on TV, they live in the BIG cities, the asphalt jungle and are "city dwellers". They have never watched a dozen fish feeding in the trash ( that was 15 minutes ago in the lake), never watch a half dozen squirrels playing from a tree stand. Never watch a doe and two fawns walk thru the woods and stop to let the fawns nurse. They are the ones who are lost. The world has not changed, it is just full of uneducated city dwellers we see on TV who do not have a clue what is the real meaning of life. Part of that meaning of life is to have one S&W of every caliber chambered since 1950.

I think most of us grew up in the best of times with proper upbringing, learned to appreciate what we had, learned to work for what we needed and what we wanted in life. We married raised kids and we rolled with it!
The world has changed, has it changed for the better, I honestly don't know!
Me, I really don't think my principles have changed much, I still try to exceed, I still try to do right and set a good example which I did this as well in my youth. Sure I had the fast cars, drank beer, never did drugs though, and I really really steered my kids away from that road.
Had long hair, did rock and roll all stuff that was normal,,,I guess
I still enjoy my rock and roll, still drink some beer, but not like in my youth. Guns? I wish I would have bought more back then but the money wasn't there either! My gun buying and collecting did start though when I was 18.
Do I have regrets, a few and knowing what I know now would have done some things different! But as they say hind sight is always better than foresight.
So all in all I guess I'd say I led a pretty good life, married a good woman and raised two good kids and now with one fantastic granddaughter!

Grew up in late 60's/early 70's, loved folk music of the times. Watched Persian protestors at San Jose State chanting that the Shaw of Iran had to go....well, they got their wish. Wasn't much of a counter-culture guy...too busy working, school, etc. to march against the system. "Ask not what your country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country"...words that seem to have been forgotten these days.

Back in the day my hair was longer and I did go to some great concerts, but I've never ever considered myself liberal. On some issues my views would be considered liberal, but most would be solidly conservative.

I joined the NRA when I was still in elementary school, and my sidearms in high school and college were a brand new Colt Gold Cup National Match, followed by a WW2 Remington Rand 1911A1, replaced by a new S&W Model 19 4" in blue.

My hair is thinner and grayer, and I've got more wrinkles, but otherwise I don't think I've changed that much. What changes have occurred, occurred on the outside, not on the inside.

I never had long hair but enjoyed the music. Never smoked or did illegal drugs, never partied hard //came close to being drunk twice, but never drunk//, but sure did enjoy the gals I was with at the time.

I call myself a "recovering hippie." Used to do all sorts of stuff in my younger days.

I've been told lately that I'm a Libertarian so I'll buy that. I like to think I've retained some of the more desirable ideals of the unwashed hippie.

Never cared one way or another about long hair but could not stand hippies. When I was coming home from Nam, through LAX in the mid '60s, had a bunch of hippies get in my face and scream I was a baby killer. I had no idea what this was all about since I had been out of the country for two years and when one of the creeps got too close I punched his lights out. The rest of them got away from me quickly and I got on my plane and went home, after a brief interview with local cops.

I always walked to the beat of my own drummer and still do.
Mid to late 60's spent some time in California, partook a little in the lifestyle, never protested the Vietnam war but I didn't believe we should be there. But gave my support to my BIL who spent 11 months on the flightline in Saigon. Came back to Iowa with long hair in braids, bell bottoms, & tie dyes. Bought an Austin Healy and partied with a .38 Smith under the seat. Have worked regularly and currently in a non-traditional (for a woman) business. I still wear tie dyes, drink, have 2 sports cars & a pickup. And a lot more guns. Went thru 4 husbands, 3 divorces, last widowed. So, what am I? A red-neck, mostly conservative hippie?

Have I changed? No. Has this country changed? Yes.

A red-neck, conservative hippie?

Have I changed? No. Has this country changed? Yes.
Don't forget "recovering" in your description....sounds like an interesting life. Back in the day, I was a Melanie fan...lady friend (not girlfriend) was a Joni Mitchell fan. Mixed marriage like that would have never worked...so, I moved on...musn't bad mouth Melanie Safka...married 35 years now because I fear the one I married....she who must be obeyed....no regrets...

Gallop Poll, Personal Gun Ownership

Conservatives 39%
Moderates 28%
Liberals 17%

I haven't changed. I'll never be a conservative.

Good to see you, Cap!

I was pre-hippie, dabbled a little in the Beat movement. I was thirty-two, married with two kids, and a minister when the real Woodstock went down. "Sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll" were kind of out of the question at that time.

I've owned guns all my life.

I thought the Vietnam War was one we shouldn't have been involved in and was terribly mishandled at the top, but I supported the troops who were there fighting the wrong war for the right reasons.

Today I refuse to be pigeonholed. There is no such thing as a typical liberal or typical conservative in my book, and I have plenty of both sides in my makeup. I take other people as I find them. I see jerks and idiots in both camps, but a hell of a lot more good people in each. I hope other people will take me as they find me, a mixture of ideas and values. If they don't, too bad. Most people are too complex to wear the "typical" label.

My interest in firearms is lifelong and has nothing to do with my politics, as a kid or now. I have the annoying habit of thinking for myself quite often.

Not everything about the Age of Aquarius was all that great.

I recall my grandpop saying "Times change, people don't." The longer I live (70 this Fall) the more I appreciate his wisdom.
