Apple to "Ban" the revolver "emoji" ?????
Apparently no detail of American life is too small for the anti-gun zealots to focus on. I have an Apple iPad and an iPhone both, and frankly, although I am vaguely aware of what "emojis" are: , I rarely use them. Today after reading this article, I took a look at the iPad I'm typing this on, and found that it has, buried among a thousand others, a crude representation of a "gasp", revolver!!!!!! I tried to put it in, don't know if it will show up.
I've had this iPad for years, and didn't even know it was there. But this was too much for several groups, and they have apparently successfully lobbied Apple to replace this deadly icon with a squirt gun.
Apple to Replace Revolver Emoji with Squirt Gun - GunsAmerica Digest
I view this as symptomatic of a larger war on our way of life, and although this may be a ridiculous example, where does it end? Also today, I read that the NYC pension fund has decided to divest themselves of their Cabela's stock, because Cabela's "sells guns".
Shawn McCoy: Blocking Cabela's investment is no way to protest guns | Dallas Morning News
I hope that I've put this in the right sub-forum, and tried not to violate any rules, but thought some of you might be interested in some of the details of the war on our way of life.
Best Regards, Les

Technically it's not apple but the company that creates emojees. They then sell them to to the different OS users such as Apple, Android and Windows based on the code. Which is why the same emoji looks different on Android then on Apple
They are making it into a water gun.

They could drop all the weird smiley faces as well, as far as I'm concerned. I don't use any of the stupid stuff.

I gave you a "LIKE" because I like your report on what is going on, not because I like what was done.
The larger problem with software billionaires is the millions they donate for advertising anti-gun citizens' initiatives. Washington (state's) software and computer technology billionaires combined their donations with Mr. Bloomberg's personal millions and his mayors' group's millions to fund deceptive advertising promoting Washington's Initiative 594. 11 1/2 million in donations bought so much TV time that the same ad was repeated three times in the same prime time TV commercial break!

I just found the website for the group that was apparently behind the lobbying of Apple to drop the deadly revolver, it's a group called "Disarm the iPhone. Com #DisarmTheiPhone. These people are relentless, in attacking any aspect of the firearms community. What I find is scary, though, is that just a tiny pressure group like this is capable of changing the course of a huge corporation.
I see it as part of "dying the death of a thousand cuts". In and of their own, these things are minor irritations, unworthy of our attention, but added together, like the dripping of water on a rock, over time they will take their toll.
It's just nice to know who our friends are. And who is not our friend.
Best Regards, Les

K22fan:
I agree completely. Here in WV, just this legislative cycle, we saw extravagant amounts of money spent by Mr Bloomberg to try to defeat both pro-gun legislative items, and to defeat pro-gun candidates running for office. We only have 1.8 million people in the State, and he spent a lot of money here. And foundations funded by some of the dot com billionaires contributed even more. Fortunately it didn't work.
It is just this relentless attack after attack that worries me.
Best Regards, Les

It seems to me these small groups doing all the screaming get their way quite often. Maybe if we (gun owners) would join them we would get somewhere. Who knows, if I didn't work for a living and could sit by the mailbox waiting for my monthly handout I would have much more time and energy to put into advancing the second amendment.

Well, I am feeling much safer knowing that dangerous handgun emoji has finally been removed and that no school children will ever be harmed by it again. Now I think I'll go pop in that worn out video cassette of the Care Bears Movie and everything will be just fine...

Apple is deciding to ditch a cartoon gun emoji from their OS?
Why, I'll show 'em. They can't do that to me! They don't know who they're dealing with here!

I wonder if images of testicles and brains were banned whether or not such folks would ever notice that they were missing parts?
Sort of like a tree in the forest...eh, what's the use. Dimwits.

Hmm. I wonder when they'll be banning guns from movies in an effort to make the world a safer place....
Or maybe banning the trigger word "gun" from polite conversation.... Hey, the "trigger" in "trigger word" is making me feel faint! Quick! Somebody hand me a teddy bear!

Not only is it being changed to a green squirt gun but one with a red tip as well. That way you know its not one of those deadly squirt guns.
You are right about different phones and having different emojis. I sent out a notice to my gun buddies and on one guys phone, my bad revolver emoji came out as a black powder flintlock pistol.
The coo koos here in my town took the rifles out of the wooden toy soldiers hands for several years during the holidays and replaced them with candy canes. Luckily, after a few years, the rifles were back. We were afraid that the same fate would befall the revolutionary soldier monuments scattered around town.
I think this all started when they stopped playing dodge ball and everyone started getting a trophy. God forbid that kids grow up learning how to live in the real world where it isn't always fair.

James:
I have been following your plight there in Massachusetts on the AG thread, and I see things like this, as insignificant as they seem to all be part and parcel of a bigger picture, and one that I don't particularly like. If you go to the #DisarmTheiPhone link, you will see that this whole campaign to "disarmtheiphone" was just a small, amateurish push by an unheard of group, called "New Yorkers Against Gun Violence", to pressure Tim Cook, CEO of Apple to remove the offensive "emoji". And it apparently worked.
We need to learn some lessons from these folks. If just a handful of anti-gun zealots can achieve this, what could our combined membership do if we were able to replicate some of their techniques?
I am, and have been, virtually a lifetime member of the NRA, have went up through all of the memberships, becoming a life member in 1970 something, and then through the other levels. I believe in the NRA.
But I think that we would do well to try to "think outside the box" a little as well.
Check out that link. When you get there, they present some scary sounding statistics, and when you click on "sources", it will take you to say, "MotherJones", and they will give you a bunch of made up stuff, with no further citations. Who, among the uninitiated, would question these numbers?
Here's a quote:
“Apple has stood up to the bullying tactics of the NRA and gun industry by showing that there are many more life-affirming ways to express oneself than with a gun,” said Leah Barrett, NYAGV’s Executive Director on Monday, as reported by CNNMoney.
Well, that's enough for now, good luck in Massachusetts!!!
I hear that the EPA is forbidding the dumping of tea in Boston Harbor.
Best Regards, Les

Well, cmort666, I certainly understand your position. I didn't even know I had a revolver "emoji" this morning, so I can't be too upset that they want to take it away. What upsets me is the principle. These anti-gun people are working every day, in every way that they can dream up, to further erode the availability of firearms, and to try to make owning or liking or collecting or talking about, or buying or selling, or using them in any way, shape or fashion, not only illegal, but socially unacceptable.
They are like termites in the foundation of your house, gnawing away a little at a time at the structure, until one day it will all come crashing down. Or that is their hope, at any rate. This is just one termite, but should we ignore it?
The other thing that I referenced in post #1 above was the move by some pension funds to "divest" themselves of stocks from gun selling or manufacturing, as a way to further marginalize guns in society. Many of us have a "double indemnity", to pun off the old Noir classic. For example, I have substantial investments in a certain pension fund. If they liquidate their holdings in say, S&W, I am going to lose some earnings, because over the last few years, S&W has been doing pretty good. And it also weakens my favorite gun company, and labels it "socially unacceptable". So it does have an effect on me, and all of us.
Best Regards, Les

Well, the latest is a move to change the name of Roy Rogers' horse in the old westerns. Apparently there is a movement to change it from "trigger" to "feather" or "pillow" because it sounds softer.
(Just kidding, couldn't resist)

Exactly and exactly why the NRA opposes banning things like the so called "cop killer" bullets. It's not because they are anti law enforcement. It's because once these morons get a hold of one thing they use it to go after the next.
AG Healey figures if she can take this action and make it hold, how far a reach is it to go after semi auto hunting rifles? Then semi auto shotguns. Then pump shotguns. Anything that holds and can fire more than one round.
Why do you think that black powder guns aren't taken seriously? Because most folks don't see your typical bank robber or gang banger going postal with a flintlock.

Being a member of this forum has vastly increased my knowledge. Until today I had no idea what an emoji was. Last week I learned what a pokemon was. At the rate this is going, you folks are going to turn me into a genius in no time!

Apple is a private business, and within certain legal limits, they have a right to do what they want with their business.
On the other hand, they have NO right to my money.
If I don't like a company's products, or customer service or politics, they have NO claim on my money.
- I don't buy guns or stocks from HS Precision.
- I don't eat at Hardee's.
- I don't use Apple phones or computers.

While I never have used those silly little graphics on my iPhone, I am trying to identify just what revolver they were modeling that icon off of. The cylinder release sure looks like a Colt, and the barrel reminds me of King Cobra, but also looks a little like a Ruger GP100 or a Taurus.
Considering the price and quality of Apple, I am going to say its King Cobra. I sure do wish Colt sill made those!

Well that's fine with me. Now I'll just have to send people full resolution pictures of evil black rifles I guess.
