Today Is National Puppy Day! Let's See Yours - Then and Now!
I don't have any puppies right now, but here are a few photos of Annie and Beau when they were puppies, and as they are today.
In the fourth photo, Beau keeps watch over Annie as she sleeps. He is extremely protective of her.
I included myself in the fifth photo just for laughs...a casual self-portrait of the make-believe Watchdog sitting with the real Watchdogs.
Annie is now seven years of age, and Beau is six-and-a-half, but no matter how old they get, they will always be my puppies.

Jim, that's a lovely family. If we didn't already have a clowder, we would love to have another pup.
I bet you never have to wash your face or the dishes do ya?

I love your big dogs. I would like to have another, but it's not practical at this time. I used to make fun of old people with little dogs, now I am one.
You have to love a puppy.
We lost our standard poodle last year.

And here she is now (short time ago)
She is more photogenic than her humans

We got Dixie as a stray in 2006. She was probably 2 years old, not a puppy but with a lot of puppy still in her. Here's the oldest picture I can find of her chasing a squirrel up a tree probably in 2008 and the 13 year old Dixie still on the hunt, chasing things and acting like a puppy.

Unfortunately I got my sweet girl when she was a young adult but now at 6 she still acts like a pup whenever we get company or are outside playing. Hope it's acceptable to post up her pic, though it's of her in a more relaxed moment .

Here are my two children. After 25 years of owning spoiled rotten Pit Bulls I decided to down size too.
This is Halle Peeno, my mix breed Taco Dog. Brand new and 8 years old.
And Hedley Lamar, my French Bulldog and part time clown.
Brand new.
And now at 2 years old helping me drive the Vette.

Jim:
Every time that I see pictures of your wonderful friends, Beau and Annie, I can't help but be impressed by their apparent dignity and intelligence!! They are two exceptional companions and you are a lucky fellow to have been adopted by them!!
I can't find a picture of our Erma as a puppy right now, but I'll keep looking for one. She is about 10 or 11 right now, we aren't quite sure, as she is a rescue. Here she is as she looks today though:
Thinking about Rusty's "clowder", last year a less than a month old kitten showed up at my cabin, and I took it in. I was going to keep it there at the cabin, but decided to take it home. Erma has never had pups, and she adopted the little girl!!! We bottle fed Bella, but she would nurse on Erma. Here is Bella today, about 7 or 8 months old. Erma will tell you that this is one of her "pups"!!!:
So, like Rusty, we have a clowder, 6 cats and one dog.
Best Regards, Les

Charlie the poodle is the closest thing we have to a puppy right now. That pic was at Christmas. We have had him since August. He will be a year old in May. He's a bit bigger now than in the pic, getting pretty close to 60 pounds and much curlier.
Our toy Aussie Gracie is ten, but she's only 12 pounds, so people still take her for a puppy. Her actual puppy photos are TOO CUTE, and would just get me in trouble with the mods.
Gracie's pup Petunia, who lost an eye to a neighborhood pit bull. She's no bigger than Gracie, so gets taken for a pup, too.
I used to have an aversion to small dogs. Anything under 35 pounds was a rodent. Gracie and Petunia have cured me of that.

I had previously posted pictures of our rescue dog, that we named Shadow. He proved his virility with these new arrivals on Valentines day. Momma dog has the pink dog collar on and the brown dog is her brother.
Here is my earlier post of Shadow coming into our lives.
New Dog in Family
Shadow no longer lives with us. My mom died this past September and my dad was devastated. Dad came over and house sat our dogs for a week over thanksgiving. Little Shadow followed him around everywhere and when my wife got home that week she saw the two really bonding.
I called my dad and asked if he would like to care Shadow home and he jumped at the chance. My dad is more active, I called and he was out of breath, I asked what was going on and he said "Shadow is taking me for a walk"!!

This is Bandit our 10 year old rescue dog. Part Papillon and mostly Jack Russell terrier; Smart little cuss! My wife can teach him to do stuff in 3 or 4 tries. He won’t listen to me unless the command contains the word Mama, ride, or walk. He gets along with most other critters unless they run – then they are a target! He hates baths, thunder, fireworks and gunfire.

Mountian Fiest Teddy. He has never found any dead critter that was too disgusting to eat, no manure pile too fragrant to roll in or squirrel than he does not want dead. But we still love him.
He likes sushi too, straight off the hook!

My Puppy
Here is my 'puppy'. She is 6 mo.s at the taking of these two pics. She is 1/2 Italian Mastiff and 1/2 Red Nose Pit Bull. Today, she is all but 1 yr. 4 mo.s. She has filled out more like her Mastiff mom and has added about 1 more inch in height. Her name is "Mattie Jo" and is named after my two departed sisters. She weighs about 90 lb. She loves all people and kids. .....

Absolutely beautiful dog. What's funny is she looks almost like a Weimaraner. But I also see the pit and mastiff.

Now that's a pretty dog. I can see the Pit Bull in her face. Interesting that her tail is docked...I guess it was done before you got her? Thank goodness they left her ears alone and didn't crop them. I'll bet she's a sweetheart.

Thanks for showing us your photos. I am sorry for the loss of your Poodle.
I'm sort of known among my friends for a somewhat cynical/sarcastic outlook on a lot of things, but one thing I never poke fun at are people with their dogs. Because I know how much their dogs mean to them, and how much the people mean to the dogs.
No matter what the size, breed, shape or whatever...I've learned that love can come in any kind of package, and you should never turn your back on love.

Thanks all. Both of them give us lots of smiles around here. The girl for the last four years, the pup for the last four weeks.

Here's our Luke. He just turned 15 on March 5th. This picture shows him along with my son then and now. Luke was 8 weeks old and my son was 7 on the left and the right shows them at 15 and 22 respectively. The second picture is the rest of our clan. Well, actually one of them in the second photo is my parents dog.

The juxtaposition of these two photos is telling. It shows the lifelong bond between first a boy, then a man and his dog. In their simplicity, these two family snapshots show what the animal-human bond is all about...a lifetime shared between two Best Friends.
And Happy Birthday to Luke!
I like the shot of the rest of your clan as well. Thanks for posting them for us.

I am lucky, yes. But not just for Annie and Beau...for all my previous Rottweilers. Because of them, I'm a different person than I was twenty-nine years ago. Annie and Beau are my current teachers, continuing to instruct me on the type of person I need to be.

I love the astonished look on Erma's face! And kudos to you for rescuing her. I hope you bring each other many more years of happiness and companionship.

Here is my dufus. He was a rescue and a birthday present from my sister back in 2010
The first picture is from the rescue organization
This is a few days after I got him. He was about 8 weeks old
And this is now
After having a walk in a snow storm
Going to the vet
He bend his beds in half, if he can, for more comfort

Hooray for Puppies!
Good start of good post, Watchdog. Your Rotties are beautiful. Love all the other pictures, including giggly granddaughter. The story of Shadow going to keep Dad company made me teary. Where would we be without our loyal canines?
Here is my contribution: Molly is a true rescue. Not from a shelter, but from the desert brush north of Phoenix. Found her while on horseback and brought her back across the front of a saddle. Now she's a year and a half and would be a struggle to get her up on a horse now.

Yes, unlike her (we're guessing) brother, who was wondering with her that we couldn't catch.

I wouldn't consider that unfortunate at all. Four of our five current dogs came to us at least 2 years old and one of them was 7 when we got him from the shelter and the bond with each is equally strong. That's the beauty of the human/canine relationship.
All 4 of our rescue dogs were either abandoned or dumped at the shelter and there's no telling what they have been through in their past environments. Unlike most people, dogs truly forgive and forget things that happen in the past.

Surely no one abandoned this beautiful dog as a puppy? She must have run away or gotten lost?
She looks like a mix of either Bluetick/Black and Tan Coonhound or Dalmatian/Black and Tan. Or maybe even Walker/Black and Tan. Has her vet ever given an opinion on her heritage?
How fortunate for the both of you that you found her! What a beautiful girl.

Mattie Jo is a 'save' from a meth lab explosion in a small No. Arizona town. The 'breeders?' were also making meth for the local trade. The explosion disabled the mother dog and slightly injured the four puppies at the age of 3 weeks. The mother dog could no longer nurse the puppies. The local animal control guy was an acquaintance of mine from a LEO shooting class. He called me and asked if I wanted to take on a 'special' save. He emailed me pictures and of course we said yes. The idiots had placed a rubber band on one puppy's tail for cropping. They only did that to one puppy and that one became Mattie. Except they did it when the she was 2 wks. old, not 1 day old. I got the puppy and we figured the tail stub was about 24 hours from gangrene. My Vet agreed that the tail could not be saved and with that the tail crop became an amputation. So, several hundred dollars later Mattie had the nice looking tail crop that you see. We saved her and then saved her life.
She was 'raised' from the age of 4 weeks by our 13 yo. Shih Tzu and our 3 yo. Yorkie/Fox Terrier mix. Mattie loves those two little dogs and will not tolerate any size dog whatsoever giving one of them any gruff. .....

I included myself in the fifth photo just for laughs...a casual self-portrait of the make-believe Watchdog sitting with the real Watchdogs.
Annie is now seven years of age, and Beau is six-and-a-half, but no matter how old they get, they will always be my puppies.

Beautiful poochies! And great pics. Just curious I see they are not litter mates but are they siblings from different litters? There markings are so much alike...

In a previous post on this thread I showed our little boxer. This however, is a photo of Zoey our last Dalmatian, a rescue, with her best friend. Sadly, Zoey was put to rest on our property last December. She had a wonderful life.

My dogs do the same thing, except with the pillows on my bed. Well, anyway, it's supposed to be my bed.

I'm so sorry that Zoey is no longer with you, but what a beautiful photograph that evokes such beautiful memories for all concerned.

Thank you. Yes, she's much more photogenic than I! You know, I keep forgetting to ask the vet about her heritage. But I have heard "Blue Tick Hound" and "Walker Hound" from many other dog owners. Sorry, I couldn't tell you.
A local person in the area said that they had seen 2 pups by the side of highway as they were taking kids to school and intended to look for them on their way back, but they were gone of course. This was a few days before I found her. Unfortunately, as you well know, many folks look for remote places to dump their unwanted pets, and I'm guessing someone drove up the highway north of Phoenix to unload.
I did run an ad locally with picture of Molly in hopes to find her littermate. Nobody responded, or said I stole their dog, so am pretty sure they were abandoned.
