Anyone else have "Tired Blood" ?
I seem to remember hearing about tired blood many years ago and have decided that is my problem. I have been feeling kind of lethargic lately, so it kind of fits right in. Anyone remember the cure ?

I do remember this as part of an ad for something to fix older folks. Now I’m in that category (75) and my energy is not what it used to be either.

Geritol. I feel lethargic sometimes but my wife says it's just because I'm lazy.

Maybe Red Bull or one of the other energy drinks will help. HA! Just had my 69th birthday. Realizing that I can do the sustained activity like I used to. An hour nap in the late afternoon is routine now.

From Wikipedia ....
Geritol was the subject of years of investigation starting in 1959 by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). In 1965, the FTC ordered the makers of Geritol to disclose that Geritol would relieve symptoms of tiredness only in persons who suffer from iron deficiency anemia, and that the vast majority of people who experience such symptoms do not have such a deficiency. Geritol's claims were discredited in court findings as "conduct amounted to gross negligence and bordered on recklessness," ruled as a false and misleading claim, and heavily penalized with fines totaling $812,000 (equivalent to $4.96 million in 2021 dollars),[7] the largest FTC fine up to that date (1973).[8][9] Although subsequent trials and appeals from 1965 to 1973 concluded that some of the FTC demands exceeded its authority, Geritol was already well known and continued to be the largest U.S. company selling iron and B-vitamin supplements through 1979.
Since then, supplemental iron products, including Geritol, have been contraindicated because of concerns over hemochromatosis,[10][11] and serious questions raised in studies for men, postmenopausal women, and nonanemic patients with liver disease, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, or cancer.[12][13]

For me personally, I started taking high-quality multi-vitamin, daily probiotics and daily Metamucil when I got to be "a man of a certain age" and it has made a real difference for me personally.

I take 10 prescription pills a day along with several flagons.
My bloodstream is a busy, happy place.

Quite seriously, at 77 I feel much better than I did five, ten, or fifteen years ago, probably solely because I finally got a GP, who quickly discovered that I had diabetes. Going on a proper diet and a small amount of Metformin has resulted in more energy and near-elimination of leg cramps. I will probably live long enough to have several more colonoscopies. Good to have something to look forward to.

A cure for tired blood? Hmmm. Don't really know. You might want to check with your physician. Of course, I'm always a little wary of the "cure all" medicines...even those from an ancient Tibetan recipe.

Best cure I know is to get off Your butt and exercise. Mainly walking and stretching. The more stretching You do the better circulation You have and it is so much easier getting up and down. Most of the stretching I do is with the use of a Nautilus machine with very light weights. Most rec centers have them. Get tested for Diabetes.

I recommend this potion called a "Manhattan." It may not fix your tired blood, but it will surely help you to take a nap. It does that for me!

I agree wholeheartedly with the 19 yr. old girlfriend. They make pills for that too. Or, heck, her mother.
Put on your favorite album, 8-track, cassette, or CD, and play it at a high volume for a while. Then get a box of 'round to-its.'

I was feeling a little that way recently. I just returned from three weeks vacation in the UK with a side trip to Barcelona. There was a LOT of walking involved, and despite having picked up COVID on the way back, I still feel better than before. I even lost about three pounds. I can only put it down to breaking the routine and getting some exercise.

Dr. Tishenor's is 140 proof mouthwash and if you can choke that down with all the oil of peppermint it has in it, you're a better man than me
Hadacol was only 12% (24 proof)-but hell, that's MD 20/20 territory.

Just had a complete blood work up with no flags and have spent the last month redoing a 30 foot paver sidewalk and replacing our 400 sq. ft. deck with Trex. Maybe I’m just tired,,, period.

To the O P PeterJ, I hope you’re feeling better.
I’ve been battling chronic pain, neuropathy, low energy, poor sleep, etc for a couple of decades now. I have an annual checkup that includes blood work that usually comes back surprisingly good. My most recent, about 3 weeks ago shows that I’m anemic.
Most all of the cholesterol and such are still good. An arthritis panel came back good too.
Not to be too graphic, I had a really bad bout with hemorrhoids. Likely the longest period of pouring bright red blood I’ve had in years. I’ve also had another H. Pylori bacteria infection in my stomach. They too can many times lead to anemia. I’ve heard many folks talk about being anemic, but had no idea of its reality.
I can tell you that the symptoms of lightheadedness, shortness of breath, and inability to perform normal daily tasks has been enough to put a healthy dose of fear and frustration in me.
Muscle weakness and gasping for air ain’t something I comprehend or withstand at all.
With the blood loss under control and taking iron medications I don’t seem to be improving, at least not enough for me to feel. I’m still a 40 hour a week guy. Making it the last couple of weeks has been an “all I can do” chore. Last weekend I slept more than 30 of a 36 hour period. I’ve had a repeat performance this weekend. I can honestly say that I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired.
I’m only 62, still have a lot of obligations that I haven’t been able to keep. Trying to keep up is something I’ve had to give up on for now. Everyone keeps telling me it’s normal for anemia to take a while to come back from. Still, it’s tough for me to accept that I can’t walk to the mailbox and back without muscle pain and shortness of breath that takes a bit to recover from.
It’s true that until it happens to you some things just can’t be imagined.
I’m a push through the pain and keep going person that has realized push all you want and it still ain’t gonna happen, happens! I’m sorry to put this out here on ya’ll, but I figure someone here can help with solid advice, encouragement, or a good swift kick in the rear.
For those that have successfully been down this road and came back you have my greatest respect. Thanks for taking the time and energy to read.

You should have your blood tested. I have internel bleeding that the source has yet to be found. Every three month I go for an infushions of Platelet once a week for four weeks plus I take daily dose of iron and B12.

Geritol ads and commercials were everywhere in the '50s and '60s. Was it the original snake oil?

Jim Beam Black is my go-to when I have tired blood, a headache, bad hair, or if I wake up in the morning.

That's my fix for insomnia. Had a double last night and slept for 10 hours.

If you don't get outside and get much sun or outdoor activity, Vitamin D will help some.

I resemble that remark.
SWMBO agrees that this post is a true and accurate statement.
