Default $700 shooter-grade k frame?

Was at Cabela's last night. In the case was an ordinary shooter-grade 65-2 with an old set of Pachmayer grips. They were asking $699.99. What am I missing here? It was in their gun library. Certainly not a collectible!

Your missing nothing, Cabelas just trying to make a buck. Gun is worth a couple hundred less than what they are offering.

What you are missing is getting hosed by paying that inflated price.

They want too much for their S&W revolvers as they see the prices on GB for revolvers in great condition that these revolvers are bringing and they think a shooter grade is almost equal to those.

The sad part is soon or later someone will pay close to that price, believing they got a fair deal. We are now seeing revolver that were priced at $350.00 five years ago selling for insane prices.

I keep saying this, but if pricing gets much more expensive lots of folks, myself included, will be looking for a different hobby.

Once in awhile Cabelas will underprice a gun, but it's rare.

1) Prices are going up. Period. Demand remains and supply is permanently decreasing. Inflation continues.

2) Opening ask doesn't equal sold price unless you let it.

I've bought guns at Cabela's and their pricing is all over the place. Before you give up, try dealing with them. If they won't budge, then move on.

Default Cabelas Pricing For Used Revolvers

I do a fair amount of searching on GI for used S&W revolvers and have found Cabelas to be consistently high priced and not by just a little without necessarily having something special to offer. I to would be interested at how they arrive at their prices. It could have something to do with their overhead but at this point as soon as I see a offering by Cabelas I don't even bother to open the page and look.

Cabelas and Gander will hose you on used gun prices - if you want a quick laugh, take a nice one in and ask them if they want to buy it!

I think prices have peaked on most run of the mill S&W's.
IE.."shooter grade" pieces will begin to drop and will not move
at the insane asking prices.

Boxed 95%+ S&W's will hold ..I think.
But I would not be surprised to see a 15% drop on near all.
I have been winning bids that would not held 90 days ago.
Just my 2cents.

Last year I bought a really nice Browning Citori Trap Combo in the original Browning suit case for a less than book price. That will most likely be the only used gun I ever by at Cabelas. I was in there last week and they had a Pre 29 for 4K. I don't think they really want to sell some of the guns in the gun library in my opinion. They want to have/keep some rare ones. +

I dunno if Canelas does consignment sales, but, if so, that could be what the owner is demanding.
I saw the same thing at an. LGS last year: a $700 price tag on a run of the mill M19 wearing Goodyear grips. When I commented on it, the guy behind the counter just laughed & said it was consignment and that's what the owner wanted. I said they should have told him no because it makes them look greedy, but they're not going to turn away business.

I hear and like what you are saying but I disagree on one point, you are accusing them of thinking. I think conniving might ring more true.

They mislabel, put unreal prices on guns, misrepresent, and if stock is low they will add some junkers to have stuff on the shelves in the library. I've seen them take a factory made on the Yugo mauser action 375 and call it a custom stocked gun at 3 times the price of a new one. I've seen used guns that are of current manufacture priced up to a $100 bucks more as used than a new one out in the take a number and wait room.
Needless to say I don't buy guns there nor frequent the library when I go buy bullets.

I've been accused of asking too much for my guns when I sell them. So what? They're mine. I can ask anything I want for them.

If I start off high, I can always come down. But if I start off low, I can't turn around and go up.

If you think it's too much, make an offer. The worst thing they can say is "no."

Model 65: great gun but not one I'd want to buy sight unseen (and hands off). Have seen more than one K-frame mag at shows here that has been heavily shot with mags and has become loose, the condition that we always talk about with these guns. Caveat emptor.

The Cabelas by me in CT has some good prices on items in the library, but some are out of whack.

I bought a really nice Model 19-4 there. I probably paid $50.00 too much, but I saw it, held it, inspected it, and even if I got one off GunBroker, I would have had to pay shipping and FFL, so I did OK.

50 bucks too much is NOT a big deal when you see a gun that you really want.

Paying $950 for a $600 gun is another story....

Totally agreed on that point Yoda.

I went into my LGS today and looked at a nice 19-3 shooter with original Target Stocks. $680 on the hang tag, I paid $650for my 19-4 from Cabellas.

So I was in the ball park.

It's all good.

It was a 4 inch barrel. They can ask what they want for it, its their gun. However, when you bring one in to sell/trade, they pick up their Blue Book and then hit you really low. Not sure they are using the same Blue Book to price their guns. Would be curious to know how they arrive at these prices.

I've purchased from them before when I found a gun that I wanted. Their prices were certainly no bargain, but somewhat in line with retail price. On the other hand, I've taken guns that I've purchased from them back in to trade and have been offered less then half of what I paid them. I always find another outlet to sell my firearms.

I have seen some unusual guns at Cabelas, and did get a decent buy on a neat gun at a Cabelas in CO. They do deal on Library guns, but it can be a hassle to buy something with a C&R unless they walk it through. Took me nearly 45 minutes to pay for the gun with a C&R license. I heard once they price guns at what they think they would bring in 5 years.

In the past 4 years I bought an unfired Pre-27 for $299 and a mint Model 14 for $199. The former came with a hand tooled holster and the latter came with the original box and papers, plus an extra set of faux stag grips (+ ones numbered to the gun).

THAT's why I buy guns at Gander, and that's why I stop in every few weeks.
