Smile Expert Opinion Request Request

Hi:
I met an out of state friend from the past this A.M. for breakfast.
After breakfast he asked me to give an ball park value on two Smith and Wesson Revolvers that He had inherited from a relative .

1. Smith and Wesson Model 29-2 .44 Magnum 8 3/8" barrel Revolver-blued finish-target grips- two piece blue cardboard box

2.Smith and Wesson Model 28-2 .357 Magnum Revolver with with 6" barrel-blued finish- magna grips - two piece blue cardboard

*** Both Revolvers are with boxes and appear to be unfired.

My friend states that his relative to family knowledge never fred either of the weapons.

With my limited knowledge I gave ball park values of:
1. Model 29-2 $1000.00 to $1600.00

2. Model 28-2 $600.00 to $900.00

Expert opinions welcome.

Thanks,
Jimmy

I think that your values are fine Jimmy, but I am not much of an expert myself

I would say your 29-2 would be on the lower end of your range, based on the long barrel length, however it IS unfired with box, so maybe in the middle.

The 28-2, with box, unfired, should bring at least $800, at LEAST...

Jimmy:
I slightly tweaked you ranges as shown above. I am not an expert either. I base my guesstimates on the facts that these are very desirable models and they are unfired with boxes. (I assume these are the boxes they came in, not just "correct" boxes acquired later.)

Unfired, Like New with box examples are just not common. So they bring a premium, and my ranges still may be low.

The M29-2 would go for more if the barrel were shorter. The same is probably true for the M28-2.

I think you were right on with the 29 Jimmy.
And "maybe" a little light on the 28.
But he asked for Ballpark figures and i believe
you did just fine. It's good to be trusted as a
friend in matters like this. Says how much he
thinks of you as a friend. He also trusts your ability
to be fair and honest.
Good job Sir.

I think you nailed it. Prices can vary quite a bit depending on where you live.

Jimmy: IMHO, Jack Flash has the 'right' numbers. Introduce your friend to Gunbroker and 30 day auctions. ............

No estimate on value but have been convinced that a -2 with an S prefix S/N will usually sell for more than an N prefix in this area, may be different in your neck of the woods.

Edited to add: I apologize jimmyj, originally I missed your "Expert Opinions Request" of course I'm not qualified.
