Default Info on a 25-2 in .45LC S/N N45****

Appears to be a 6" as new SS pistol. Barrel marked 45 cal. Model 1955.
Mfg. date?
value?
I picked this pistol up several years ago, put away, and forgot about it. Just found it during a move - Christmas in October, heh, heh.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks

Unless it is mismarked, or misread, the 45 long Colt, N frame was a Model 25-5. The Model 25-2 was 45 ACP. Mismarked revolvers from the factory are not uncommon. My Model 25-5 is built on the frame of a Model 25-2 and that mark can still be seen under the correct stamp.

Someone else more knowledgeable will be able to supply an approximate shipping date for you.

And post some photographs please, we like them!

If by SS you mean stainless steel, there never was a model 25 of any dash in stainless. The stainless 45a are all 625s

You could have a nickle plated 25-2 in 45 ACP, not 45 colt or you could have one with a non factory hard chrome finish.

Some pictures would help

Thanks guys. This is always the place to come for Smith info.
Thinking it may be an after market brushed nickel?chrome(?) - but very well done - no smooth edges on the lettering that I can see. Definitely marked as a 25-2 and the right side barrel stamp is .45 cal. Model 1955.
Interestingly the serial number looks almost like it was hand stamped. The digits are stamped to different depths - almost like the individual numbers on the stamping die were worn differently.
Ah me, so many guns; so little time...

Based on the barrel stamping, I am willing to bet your revolver is chambered for the 45 ACP cartridge.

It sounds like a nice revolver.

Here are two of mine, the one with the Patridge sight is the Model25-2, the one with the red ramp is the Model 25-5.

I'm betting if you measure from the front of the cylinder to the muzzle, you will find that it is a 6 1/2 inch barrel. It may be a tad shorter as in 6 3/8s as they were sometimes shorter due to fitting. That serial number should be in the mid 70s.

I had a 25-5 in 1980-81, Armaloy finish, which basically looked like satin nickel. I think it was a thing around that time.
